I said the same thing about the door breach thing... Jack, having known that those Russian guards were outside the door (and have technological abilities to see what's occurring in the room) would NEVER walk away from the consulate. He would've immediately called CTU to tell them what he had gained from the torture before going anywhere--not in his character at all (always a step ahead, then suddenly he's not???). Also, it's going to make it so by the time Jack is able to alert CTU of the whereabouts of Gredanko that the bad stuff will already be underway (CTU just a minute too late).... this was one of the more ridiculous parts of 24 history. Overall though, I enjoyed this episode a lot more than the previous two or three.

Not that it matters, but I can't stand her.

Jack's timing and instincts are off. It's the only thing that could explain how easily he was taken down. I think this was the writer's way of showing how vulnerable Jack really is after coming back from the Chinese prison.

Yeah, there's no way that the "walking out" attempt was a slip-up by writers. Had to be intentional.

BTW, if there is ANYTHING wrong with this season, it's the fact that they didn't spend enough time on Jack and China.

I agree, but they probably wanted to spend more time on the family issues.

I can agree with the fact that the writers probably didn't screw up on the "walking out" attempt... however, it seems pretty silly for Jack to have slipped up to that point... he has had really good instincts at key times that could've ended LA, but not now? It could be that he's just inconsistent after the China stuff, but it could be a convenient thing for the writers too...

she was "supposed" to but for whatever reason i guess she did not. i am almost positive that when she called bill he asked where she was and she said "andrews".

It made no sense though. He knew they'd be at the door waiting. The guy just starts walking out looking at his watch like he's leaving his home getting ready for work as if he didn't know guards were outside of the door. Especially when he had just stood outside with one of them.

Is that missing instinct really? He had an experience in a Chinese counsulate and all of a sudden he forgets he and the consul arent the only two in the building? I dont buy it.

The whole thing is ludicrous. Breaking into a consulate and cutting off a guy's finger? He just ended up in China for almost two years and he is going to take Logan's word (who he says he doesn't trust) that the guy is lying and do this? Better be safe so let's cut off a diplomat's finger to make sure. Its 24 though. What else can you say?

Practice makes perfect. He might have been able to succeed in doing some incredible things to keep destruction at bay, but that doesn't mean he's consistent at it since he just came back from a harrowing couple of years in a Chinese prison, and he hasn't been out in the field during that time. Jack's instincts and timing were off and they show it in various ways this season, but seeing his instincts ALWAYS off would be ridiculous IMHO because we know who Jack Bauer is. He's made for doing this type of work, so his natural talents kick in when he sees the need for it. It's when he has to anticipate things where he's somewhat off this year, I think, where the threat of danger isn't easily foreseen. We saw him sweat out disarming that nuke too though, which was uncharacteristic somewhat of him.

He wasn't quick enough to keep the panic button from going off either. He didn't even anticipate that, and I thought that was weird for him not to take that into account. So I would say his instincts were slightly off from the start of the infiltration.

You're right, it's not very sensible, but the purpose and intent I think is pretty clear behind what his actions are supposed to portray.

In any case, I think he was in a rush to get out of there. He should have been looking for alternate escape routes or something, but he clearly wasn't thinking straight, and thus walked into that trap.

And as far as him trusting Logan...there have already been 3, I believe, examples this season of Jack's mental instincts in reading people being wrong.

                              1) Believing his Dad.
                              2) The Guy Assad ended up torturing. Jack thought he didn't know anything, and truly believed he didn't.
                              3) I swear there was another one, too. Hm.

When he got locked in the room @ Christopher Henderson's workplace, and Henderson walked out and drove off.

"How could I have been so stupid?"

Although that was Season 5, nevermind.
