    Re: The Prestige

I watched it on dvd tonight, and i have to say it was very entertaining. i figured out the "secret" about midway thru, but even so it still was shrouded enough in mystery that it made me wonder if i was right in my guess. it sorta had a feel like "the illusionist" but it was more suspenseful. my wife watched it the night before and she was surprised i got it so quickly. btw, from what you guys picked up, who do you think was the father of the little girl, alfred or fallon? i say alfred because of his willingness to give up his secrets to protect her; i think that fallon loved her like his own because he loved her mother so much, but i could be wrong. what are your thoughts?

I liked the movie pretty good. The revelation of Jackman's trick was a bit of a disappointment to me and kind of dampered the movie for me, but everything else was just great.

I'm not quite sure if that question can exactly be answered.

Yeah, that seems to be the only real letdown.

There was no Fallon of Alfred as you can not identify which one was which as they constantly changed roles. So whenever the wife said she believed that version of Alfred loved her, that was the father of the little girl. Because both brothers loved the little girl, there are no signs at the end on which version of Alfred died.

I thought the movie was good, but highly overrated. Everything was pretty easy to call and the whole sci-fi angle was a copout. It would have been much better establishing Root as a bigger character and leaving out the sci-fi angle. Should have kept it grounded in reality.

The one who loved the wife died at the end. The twin who was free even apologized for having driven the wife to suicide, remember?

I don't remember exactly, but good call, if there was an apology then it was definitely because she never believed him. Thanks for the clearup!

You're welcome, I remembered the free twin apologizing to the jailed one as he was being carried away from when I saw it in the theater. I don't think it was revealed at the time, however, that they were twins, because the free twin was still in his disguise.

Damn good movie. I sorta figured out the twist halfway through...but I, too, thought "that can't be right" and the rest of my movie was spent paying attention and seeing if it truly was right.

Just a fun movie to watch.

Prestige is a better for me because its has better narration and story telling aspects.
