The numbers are explained here:
That is a video released by the Lost producers so it's official."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Also know that Lost takes place in the year 2004.
That video link (from the 4 minute mark on - everything after the DHARMA video) takes place in 2006.
So, this happens AFTER the Losties land on the island. Two years after.
For more information on what that video is about and who the girl is that's filming click here: http://lostpedia.com/wiki/Rachel_BlakeLast edited by CMH; 11-12-2006, 07:28 PM."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Re: ***LOST Official Season 3 Discussion**** (Contains West Coast spoilers)
I'm not sure we'll ever find the reason for Libby. There were rumours that both her and Michelle Rodrigues were killed off because of their drinking problems. It's not a coincidence that both were shot and killed in the same episode.
I'm starting to think that the only reason why they're bringing up new characters is just to keep the show going. A lot of what was written last year and this year is nothing more than filler. The year 'finale' was horribly thin. It's pretty bad when I could explain everything that happened or was revealed in less than 60 seconds to my coworker.Comment

Re: ***LOST Official Season 3 Discussion**** (Contains West Coast spoilers)
I found this on another board re: the "Who is Jacob" question. Makes a lot of sense....
I'm going to go with Paulo being Jacob. Here's why:
We saw when Ethan and Goodwin were sent into camp, they were told to pretend to be survivors but do not get involved. Then they were told to prepare lists.
They both used their real names, which was how Ethan got found out. Hurley discovered he wasn't on the manifest, so he was forced to abduct Claire (and Charlie) without having made a list. He failed in his mission.
Ethan gets killed, so I believe that sometime immediately after that, they sent in another mole. This time, they got smart, and like Henry Gale, they told "Jacob" to assume the identity of a dead passenger from the manifest. Enter Paulo (the name of a passenger who died).
What we already know about Paulo is that up until now, he has stayed on the fringes, following the directive to not get involved. He is only pulled in, very reluctantly, to the Pearl station by Nikki, with whom he has forged a relationship, but still maintains a low profile. (Nikki has turned out to be a clever gal, I think she'll figure this out).
Recall The Hunting Party, when Jack called Tom out on sending in a spy. Tom tensed. Jack said Ethan, and Tom relaxed. Jack made it clear that they still don't know about the mole in their midst. At the time, I speculated it was Libby. I think Jacob is Paulo, and that Paulo made a list and gave it over. He now remains in camp to monitor what goes on and report back.Helen: Everyone's special, Dash.

Re: ***LOST Official Season 3 Discussion**** (Contains West Coast spoilers)
Real in the world of Lost? Yes.
Basically, Rachel Blake is the daughter of Alvar Hanso (of the Hanso Foundation, the organization responsible for funding the DHARMA Initiative).
It is the year 2006 and she is looking to reveal the truth behind the DHARMA Initiative on her website Hansoexposed.com. That's why she is filming that video.
Apparently, the writers are trying extremely hard to make Hanso and DHARMA true to life (breaking the fourth wall). So, they had the fictional character (Rachel Blake) appear before them in Comic Cans. She slammed the writers for "allowing The Hanso Foundation to prove themselves as this great philanthropic organization by buying their way into the show's plot with advertising dollars."
As always with Lost, you get one answer (in this case, the Numbers) but you end up with several more questions.
How exactly Blake will be intertwined into the Lost series is still unknown. The breaking of the fourth wall makes things even more confusing. My only guess is that the writers want to enhance the Lost Experience by making Hanso and DHARMA "real".Last edited by CMH; 11-13-2006, 12:55 PM."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Re: ***LOST Official Season 3 Discussion**** (Contains West Coast spoilers)
I found this on another board re: the "Who is Jacob" question. Makes a lot of sense....
Additionally, it's been noted that the guy playing Paolo is apparently a very popular Brazilian actor. Like the Brazilian Tom Cruise. So for the Lost producers to cast him, the theory is that he must have some kind of substantial role. Which is, of course, purely speculation. But still....
Paulo also knew where the bathroom was in the Pearl.
As for "Jacob".
Another theory on him is Jacob Vanderfield. He is a member of the Board of Directors for the Hanso Foundation.
A lot of this new information I'm giving is from the Lost Experience (alternate reality game the producers came up with that is tied in to the Lost series).
The only reason why I wouldn't really believe Vanderfield to be the Jacob they mention in Lost is because the writers never intended the Lost Experience game to reveal important information that regular television viewers would be unaware of on the show. It's more for background information and to answer a few questions."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace
