No that would be "based on the characters created by: so and so"

Eh, I've heard so many bad things about the making of this movie. I'll probably go and see it tho.

The two main characters are the same names as the original, but look nothing alike, talk nothing alike, or even act the same. Why call this miami vice, when in essence its not? Maybe im showing my age, but people are making these movies way way too soon, and i think its the laziness of the producers who have no original ideas left and just want to regurgitate the same formulas that have worked before. I mean miami vice isnt that old!
The show was in the 80's...20 yrs is a long time imo.

Also, this was never meant to be like the Dukes of Hazzard or Mod Squad or any other remake. They are just using the names as hook to get some people to see it. If it was a real remake it would be set in the 80's and they would be wearing white jackets. Also, Michael Mann is doing this. The same guy who did Heat and Collateral so I dont think this is going to be horrible. Also its getting pretty good reviews so far.

Has no one mentioned that Michael Mann was the Exec. Producer for the original show and also wrote one episode?

The man knows about the history of the show inside and out. So while it's not a faithful recreation of the series i'm sure he's at least going to bring some aspects in it that some fans will remember. Maybe an in-joke or two.

Michael Mann also created and produced the orginial show. I think if anyone should update (remake) a show, it should be the original.

At first when I saw that they were making this movie, I thought "Oh great, just another remake of an 80s show. Then I saw who was doing it and got intrigued. Mann has made some great movies, and I think this one will be really good as well. Just the thought of a Heat style shootout has got me excited about this flick.

Actually he didn't create the show. That honour goes to a certain Anthony Yerkovich. The only other big properties this guy did was writing for HART TO HART and as a writer and supervising producer for HILL STREET BLUES.

Im telling you. You guys know how to ruin everything for yourselves. Games, moveis, and so on.

I dont care if its like the tv show or not. If I want the tv show, I'll watch it on tv. If the movie is entertaining, then my money will be well spent.

Funny how some of the comic book fanatics love the changes of the comics even though its so far off from the originals, but dont like this...LOL

                  Re: Miami Vice

just got back from seeing this movie and my only recommendation is to avoid this movie like the plague...

By far the most incoherent piece of junk I have ever seen. The first hour and 30 minutes is unintelligable, and the last 15 minutes of action in no way makes up for it. What action is there, is good, but it's so little that it can't save this movie...

I give it 1.5 out of 5 stars.

Hmm. I might be seeing Clerks II twice then.

You're basing this on ONE review? or are there other reviews out there that make it sound that bad?

Overall, the critic reviews are decent (50% on Rotten Tomatos & 64% on metacritic), but the user reviews are pretty low. I wasn't too interested in the movie, other than to see an action flick, but I also want to see a good action flick.

Collateral was awesome, but this movie looks like garbage. I also can't take the Miami Vice name seriously. I feel like this movie should be in all pastels or something.
