Re: Horror Franchises, Where Have They Gone Bad?
Nah, I love the original, fantastic idea and great movie. It really brought a sense of fear into the audience. I saw it opening night with a packed theater, with over half thinking the movie was real. Made for a great experience.Comment

If Blair Witch is what your talking about, that was an excellent movie that was like the Amityville Horror based on a true story at first. Then everyone came out and said that Blair Witch was fake and only done in that manner to garner hype.Originally posted by ExtremeGamerNah, I love the original, fantastic idea and great movie. Yeah, I meant to quote Diesel but didn't I guess.Originally posted by candyman56If Blair Witch is what your talking about, that was an excellent movie that was like the Amityville Horror based on a true story at first. I followed Blair Witch for a year on the web before it hit theaters. Just loved the idea, loved the Sci Fi special on it, where they talked to the Burkitsville town folk about the legend. After the bomb of the 2nd movie (which I actually enjoyed), the prequel was killed and never to be made. Shame too, as the prequel set in the 1800's could have been epic.Comment

Re: Horror Franchises, Where Have They Gone Bad?
It was so cool on how they had built this movie up to be so true and realistic before the release. I was a little bit bummed out when I found out that the mythos was fake, but it was still a great concept. BW2 really was a mess and screwed up like you said any plans for a prequel/sequel.Originally posted by ExtremeGamerYeah, I meant to quote Diesel but didn't I guess.

Re: Horror Franchises, Where Have They Gone Bad?
The hype surrounding TBWP was the most incredible thing I've seen, it's hard to find anything that compares to it. The directors and Artisan were sooooooo smart in how they handled this film, from the website to the Sci-Fi special to the TV spots, etc. They really had a lot of people thinking this was a true story and even when it was found out that it wasn't, people were still so intrigued that they went and saw the movie...in most instances, over and over again.
Everything about The Blair Witch Project from top to bottom was absolutely genius.Patrick Mahomes > GodComment

Horror Movies ain't what they use to be... I think every "GENRE" goes thru a period like that. What makes it worse are SEQUELS... Now were getting "REMAKES"
Movies like Dusk Til Dawn, SAW, Cabin Fever, 28 Days Later, High Tension, Hostel, Undead, Dog Soldiers & The Descent, which I saw this weekend & highly recommend are the exception to the rule.
Compared to such greats as BOOGEYMAN, VALENTINE & DARKNESS
Hopefully director's like Rob Zombie, Tarantino & Robert Rodriguez(Grindhouse) Eli Roth, Neil Marshall & Alejandro Aja can resurrect the GENRE back to it's good O'l daysComment

I think the Final Destination movies have avoided the sequel curse...though the first was the best one (as it'll always be I think).
I still remember the scene when the girl steps out into the street and gets hit by the bus, that one got me good. One of my favorite horror movie deaths.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

While I like the play of leaving a lot of the film up the viewer, I think this movie just could of been really good, and it missed, by a lot. The hype was so huge....and it dropped the ball.
I don't need visual stuff to scare me, but with as much hype and following this movie had, it failed to deliver.Comment

Agree 100%- when I go to the theaters to see horror movies, I want an atmosphere where everyone is on edge. BWP did it better than any other film I have seen in a group.Originally posted by ExtremeGamerNah, I love the original, fantastic idea and great movie. Re: Horror Franchises, Where Have They Gone Bad?
BWP was freaky because it was very vague as to what was going on in certain parts and it made you use your imagination and you had to piece together in your mind what was going on instead of it being all laid out in front of you with special effects and costumes, etc.
Movies like that are soooo much more scary.Patrick Mahomes > GodComment

Re: Horror Franchises, Where Have They Gone Bad?
The way Blair Witch was marketed was pure genius.
A lot of viewers thought it was real.
The movie was cheap to make and turned a huge profit. The 3 main actors have pretty much vanished though (no pun intended).
The ending of the film was excellent. There was no gore but it stuck with you for awhile.
The only negative is that I got motion sickness from the herky jerky camera work.Comment

That part freaked me out more than I've ever been before in my life. The dude just standing there against the wall in that basement...I'll never forget that image.Originally posted by asianflow
