The purple shirts sucked tremendously... they switched to Black shirts and Khaki pants now tho.

I don't miss working there at all, but the 3 free movies was a great quirk thinking back on it. I haven't watched movies as frequently since, although I went on a renting binge in the last week, renting over 12 or so movies, and watched them all.

That's good to hear that they finally switched. And yes, the free rentals were sweet....made up for the lousy pay. I haven't been on a serious movie binge in a long time.

To a certain extent the free movies couldn't compensate for the lousy pay, which is the reason why I quit. This ain't no sweatshop!!!

True. It was my moonlighting job so the pay wasn't as big a deal. But what did get me to quit was the inconsistent management (went thru 5 managers in my 2 yrs) and how they decide your starting salary. I quit 2 days after finding out the 2 people I trained for the same job I was doing were making over a $1 more per hour than me.

That also was key to me quitting: the many managers we had over a short period of time. One month we were going through our workly grind, and then the next month, we'd have to switch up how we did things based on what the new manager was looking for. It just got completely hectic.

The only video store I would want to work at is the one in Clerks.

I always wanted to work at a video store, and it's not a bad gig. (Free video game rentals are a nice perk) For the most part, the co-workers and customers are easy to work with. Bad management will sour any good situation, though.

Agreed, it depends on your store location and your managers. Mine sucked, and the location sucked. I quit after 8 months. I was paid minimum wage and had to do all the sh*t jobs. I had to unload the outside drop off bin, rewind all the tapes, restock the shelves, sweep the floors, follow black people around the store because our cameras didn't work (this was my managers idea, which I thought was ridiculous but I didn't say anything because I was young and afraid of getting fired from my first legit job) and help close the store down while the other CSRs got to talk movies with customers and sit on their *** eating candy and watching whatever movie was on.

Ugh and my manager had the worst b.o. ever.

And then we always got people complaining about these $1.00 coupons we handed out. they tried to use them like a year after the expiration date and got pissed when we wouldn't let them use it. I had to stand there so many times while people were yelling in my face about how incompetent i was and how they were never coming back while saying stuff like "well I apologize and we truly do value your business here at hollywood video". people suck.

Make sure you find out if any hot girls work there before you consider working there. If there aren't any, the job is really not worth taking. I was more fortunate. Some pretty nice booty working at mine. At some point, one went away to college again, one moved down to ATL, and one was left. I quit, and then a week later the last girl quit .

Sucks for anyone who works there now. Without cute girls to co-work with (flirt with)... it just doesn't make coming to work any easier.

True. Didn't have any cute girls to work with at my former Maryland Hollywood Video, but there were many hotties that came in to rent daily since they were MVP members.

We used to call it the Hollywood Video Scale (HVS). It was used to rate girls that came in and rented.

                            0 - Nope, never
1 - F'able (but you have to be a little unsober)
                            1.30 - (sober f'able)
                            2 - Pretty
                            3 - WOW

So like I would ask my coworker ... "what is the HVS?" ... and the girl that he was taking care of at the counter was somewhere between pretty and wow... he would say... "$2.50".

                            We did this all shift.
