Pretty good movie prices in my area. $6 anytime show at the Rave and $5 anytime show at the Regal Cinemas. Both are nice theaters too. I go to a movie nearly every Tuesday at Regal because you get a free small popcorn that you can upgrade to a medium for 75 cents. If you take in your own 20 oz cola, that's a movie with refreshments for $5.75, not too bad. The $6 Rave shows cost a little more at the refreshment stand, but that theater has the digital projection picture, so that kinda makes up for it.

4 bucks with my college id. Without 7.50 for the evening, and for matt's is 2 bucks for college id, and 4 bucks without. I usually eat before I go, and just by a small drink. Saves money that way.President of the Devils Den

There are matinee shows for 4 and 5 bucks at certain theatres close to me so its not a problem to go and check out some movies with the family.Comment

Its cheap thrills. it never has been and never will be "worthwhile" especially considering you can own the movie for about that same price. but atmosphere can be the deal breaker, so thats most likely why i still go once or twice a year.
i have these big century threatres who people go to for the atomopshere and stadium seating and are willing to pay 9-10 bucks and 6 for matinee. the other united artist places are way cheaper by 3-4 bucks but atmosphere isnt too greatComment

Re: Movie ticket prices
Considering the majority of what Hollywood is spewing out lately is pure garbage I rarely go to the theatre anymore. It's 30-40 bucks easy by me. I get all of these movies on DVD 4 months later and say "Thank God I didn't pay all that money for this garbage."PSN: JISTIC_OS

Re: Movie ticket prices
It's $6.50 with student ID here in Columbia,SC. Regular price is $7.50...which is insane. Like others have mentioned, they get your money at the concessions stand more than for the actual ticket. I haven't bought movie concessions in 2 years...just eat before I go.
I've gotta say that since I got my 50inch HDTV I have been really apathetic about going to the movie theaters. I'd rather wait for them to come out on DVD and watch it with my gf vs. having to find parking, where to sit, money for gas to drive to the theater (closest one is 25 min away), etc.
IMO, there haven't been a lot of movies that I'd consider worth $6.50+ to go see in the theaters.Comment

They almost encourage bringing outside food in.
I usually either eat before I go to the theatre or bring my own stuff in.
When I saw Miami Vice, I brought in a bottle of Barqs rootbeer that didn't fit into my pocket. I just decided to walk right in with it. I later noticed they sold this at the concession stand.
Whenever I bring stuff in, I always try to put it in my pockets or jacket (this is much harder in the summertime). I've never seen anybody that had their food or drinks taken away by staff before. Considering it's mostly teenagers working at movie theatres, I doubt they even care.
I don't mind paying $11 to see a movie but I'm not going to pay $12 for a popcorn, candy bar, and pop.Comment

Re: Movie ticket prices
Few comments...
- Right, gas is a necessity and movies are a luxury...so that's exactly why I think it would be much easier to boycott movies. Maybe if I'm bored one of these days I'll start some crazy e-mail forward telling people to boycott the movies.
- To the people who said go to the matinee that's what I usually try to do...however even that is $6.50+ per ticket.
- Sometimes I bring my own snacks in but it's tough to bring in a drink
- There's something to be said about the experience of seeing a movie at the movies...especially opening night. I have a 55" LCD and while I like watching TV/movies on that it's still not the same as going to the movies.Comment

Re: Movie ticket prices
I RARELY go to movies, and when I do I take my own snacks in, so that keeps costs down. Sometimes I can even get my parents to give me the money.Comment

I usually have a bottle of Poland Spring water in my pocket. Just slip your hands in your pockets when you walk.Comment
