Hooking up Surround Sound to Computer

I was wondering if anyone could tell me if this was possible. I have a 5.1 JVC surround sound system with my DLP tv which is about 10 feet away from my computer. I use some okay 2.1 speakers on my computer right now but i was wondering if there is anyway i can get my 5.1 surround sound to hook up to my computer too? so I can hear most of my music with surround sound and 800 watts of goodness.

You would have to buy a sound card that accepted a digital input.

Bumping your own post is against the ToS, go read it.

To answer your question; yes there is. If you want true surround go get an audio card that has a digital coaxial or optical out. You could also always go buy a cord that transforms the lil jack into L/R audio jacks, but that is faked surround sound.

shouldnt cost too much either... very easy to install too. unless you have a cheap motherboard with a soundcard thing already built in. i think youd just not use it at all. no way to truely uninstall that.

Alright cool thanks. I used to work in a local computer shop part time and installation is now problem. I was wondering if anyone knew the specific brand of sound card or "switcher" i could use.
