Queen and The Who just aren't hard rock/heavy metal to me. The style of their music strikes me as straight up rock, or "classic" rock, if you will (to be simple, some of Queen's stuff if we want to get into it is pretty hard to classify). Much in the same way as a I wouldn't put Aerosmith into this grouping either (yes I know we're talking about British bands primarily). Yeah some of their songs are borderline hard rock, but the majority of their material is not (especially when one includes any of their stuff post 1980).

I agree that Rainbow is pretty much a knock-off of Deep Purple, though I'd rather listen to Rainbow any day of the week-long live Ronnie James Dio!
If this Sabath with RJD or Ozzy? Or combined..Mob rules was pretty good with Dio..
Redskins Fan. The 82 Smurfs will never die. 83/88/92 NFL world champions!!

Def Leppard is a bubblegum pop band, they're terrible. I don't like Thin Lizzy, but I respect them. They did some pretty cool things in their hey-day, even if it never really appealed to me. I mean c'mon, Pour Some Sugar On Me? Absolutely terrible.

Sabbath with Ozzy was very diverse, Sabbath with Dio was pretty much a completely different band (just imagine Ozzy singing on the Heaven and Hell record). Either way, they're no one trick pony. Do Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and Electric Funeral sound anything alike? The poster who made that comment about them is just plain silly.

Ding-ding! Def Leppard was the British version of Van Hagar without any balls.

        P*ssy pop rock.

Seriously, what influence did Def Leppard have on any bands to follow? Almost none. Every other band we're discussing kicked/kicks major azz and also had major influence on subsequent bands.

        Take care,
