I tried to watch the show when it first premiered but didn't really get into it but I guess I'll give it another shot.

I felt the same way. The first three episodes are directed by Michael Apted, the series gets MUCH better after that. Great show!

For those who dont know. After filming the first 3 episodes they stopped production and retooled things a bit because they weren't quite happy with where the show was going either. So from episode 4 on the show really picks up. Though I dont think the first three eps were all that bed in their own right.

It was more about the characters being foreign to me and thought most the storylines tied in but some did the looked-a-like and I wasn't getting the names and stuff. And episode one and was kinda hard to follow but after finishing the first 3 even I knew it was going to pay off. And I guess it's too quick for me to rank it but heres yet another show that's above The Sopranos. (And this is from a Sopranos supporter/defender who liked season's 4 and 5 and isn't looking for a main charter to be off'ed every episode, just b/c the end is near doesn't mean everyone has to die some of them can liver happily ever after )

Anyway I really ended up liking the show it's not at SFU level but it gives The Wire a real run for it's money. Im glad I got pressured into watching it. Sometimes the pace seems slow but really a lot happened and maybe 3 or 4 seasons run then call it a series is a good approach. It's not HBO is going to but out a bad show so I guess I'll always step up to the plate and have whatever they serve next. When they first announced the show, I figured they were trying to cash in on the buzz from Gladiator. I want to say I remember hearing about the show back in 03 and I just somewhat wrote it off because of the scale that would be required for a show like that. I figured there would be no way that they could afford to make it authentic. BUT I WAS WRONG. This post is way too long but it was great and thanks for the recommendation. HBO will aways shine because they a willing to challenge their viewers on all levels. Just think about the dialect and vocabulary, truly unprecedented.
