    EA getting REAL greedy...

If I'm mistaken about WHO the guilty is, please point my accusations in the right direction. Otherwise, the other day I read on Yahoo that EA is going to really start stuffing advertisements into its games. This bothers me especially so, since I'm one that really dislikes marketing campaigns, telemarketers in general, junk mail, those stupid signs littering every countryside road nowadays. I understand that having *some* advertising in sports games adds to the realism (I guess EA doesn't feel that realistic gameplay should be the focus), but do they really think the public is dumb enough to think that having advertisments EVERYWHERE in a sports game adds to the feel of said product? I don't think so! Having said that, this really is the icing on the cake, as far as I'm concerned, in feeling that EA has never really put out a decent sports game. They're always removing working features one year and adding two more gimmicky, space-wasting "features". Screw EA.

I think it adds to the realism of their sports games if this is the case. What's the big deal if you see a Coke promotion in one of the stadiums or a Mountain Dew pitch on a half time show?

GameSpot is the world's largest source for PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U, PS Vita, Wii PC, 3DS, PSP, DS, video game news, reviews, previews, trailers, walkthroughs, and more.

Yeah, this appears to be what the care about the most. I'm not going to say screw EA, because I still play some of their games, so if I say screw em, I'm a hypocrite, but I'm not lying when I say I like other companies games more.

2K does the same thing, don't see what the problem is.

For me, it's no problem at all... and it does add to realism. But... they tend to start slacking on the more important parts of the game, to throw in these "gimmicks" as the original poster said. And the stats show... the quality is down in EA games.

I hear what you are saying XCELL, but it's more of a cash cow then a gimmick. No telling how much EA is getting for this or how much they will recieve in the near future. Here's a good article on the subject:

I don't see how this is a bid deal or even changes anything in the actual games.

                Re: EA getting REAL greedy...

I really don't mind it too much in sports games, due to the realism (though EA would have to have PRESENTATION first to make it feel "real"). One thing I didn't like though, in NCAA 06 was how the game would pause a bit during the "Pontiac Drive Summary" and you couldn't just skip through it to the kickoff...it seemed hard coded that you actually had to digest the ad.

Ad issues to me would be in a game like 'Splinter Cell' where if you found a Sobe machine or something that it would give you special moves, or something to that effect.

Remember the good ole days though, when ads in games was just starting to be talked about, and how it might one day "lower the price of games to the consumer" Nawwww, it really just increases developer profits (and I don't buy the dev cost increases at all...especially with EA where the same engine is only moderately tweaked for five years).

EA re-built their engine for next gen, where 2K just ported their engine over.

Because people have a need to try and hate EA to be cool.

I like what EA is doing here, I hate the fake advertising in games. I remember back on NFL 2k2 or something like that, seeing FedEx advertisments and other real companies' logos scattered throughout the game.

I meant for the next five years (the current cycle).

And Spear, it's not EA hating, most people here want the real ads. Just don't pause the game to make the "impact" of the ad stand out.

(of course I would prefer the Broncos "Ring of Fame" before the Invesco logo)

They put the Burger King dude in Fight Night Rd 3.... !!!! That's EA's Jump the shark moment to me. Expect to be overwhelmed with this stupid crap from now on...

I just don't even get the main argument here.

EA's out to make as much money as they can? That's news?

In other news, the sky is blue and water's wet.

Agreed, but I paid 60 bucks for a game.. Why do I have to watch the Burger King dude play grab fanny with the boxers? Is 60 dollars not enough?
