I listen to plenty of classic rock, I'm not 17 and I still think it is one of the best songs ever. They were never a great band(they had one great album, a few decents ones and a bad one), but that song still stands up.

In Your Honor was a good cd, once you got past the sonnovabitch autorun DRM stuff that made it unplayable on your PC. But Sony got in trouble for that later anyways.

but I'd say everlong is probably at the bottom of Foo Fighters' top 10 songs.

It was nothing compared to what Sony put on albums released in late 2005, those were the albums with the software that allowed your computer to be monitored and easily hacked. The Foos did put up on their website the workaround for the software on their album, that was pretty cool.

I don't know. I think the Foos have two great albums, one good album, one HORRIBLE album and I have yet to hear In Your Honor.

Which would be the horrible album?

One of the greatest rock songs ever?

Compared to Led Zeppelin's "Stairway To Heaven"?
              Compared to Pink Floyd's "Time"?
Compared to Derek and the Dominos' "Layla"
Compared to The Beatles "Let It Be"?

Sorry. But to quote Bill O'Reiliy, "I ain't buyin it".
How I wish, how I wish you were here. We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl year after year. Running over the same old ground. What have we found? The same old fears. Wish you were here.

I never came close to liking There Is Nothing Left to Lose as much as I did Colour and Shape. And I didn't find their debut to be GREAT either. I would say:

                Great - Colour & Shape
Good - Nothing Left..., self-titled, In Your Honor
Not Good - One By One

A song didn't have to be written in the 60s or 70s to be considered one of the greats.

I hear what you are saying, but I think there is no greatest song ever. You go with what you like and hope others feel that way too. It is all opinion, that is why I laugh at anybody that tries to make a list of the top 100 songs ever, like VH1 does. lol That was funny about the 17. lol

What is so great about let it be. I just don't get why everybody picks this song as one of the best, maybe I am to young, but I don't get it. Sure it is a great song, but the greatest ever. lol

I agree, but what would you expect MR. Classic Rock to say? I love classic rock so I would say the greatest song ever would be during that time. But then again that is just my opinion. lol

I don't think that it's the Foo Fighters' best song, much less the greatest rock song.

I'll give ya Stairway and Layla, but you could have come up with better examples from Pink Floyd and the Beatles.

True. But you're the only one who considers it even remotely close to one of the greats.

Grohl's prior band -- yeah, that small band named Nirvana -- cut probably 20 songs that were better than "Everlong."

Anyone else see the irony here? You're criticizing his selection of "Let It Be" as one of the greatest rock songs of all time one post after saying that it's impossible to rank tunes, a task that should be left to the individual listener.

                              LOL.

P.S.: Just give me the entire side two of "Abbey Road." It's the ultimate perfect album side in rock history.
