I currently have a 50" 1080p Sony SXRD, a Sony Dream 5.1 home theater system w/ upconverting DVD (DAV-FX80), a 360, current gen consoles, and games.
I'm looking to upgrade my home theater system to the Onkyo 7.1 THX system, which would then require a DVD player purchase, either the Oppo or the Toshiba HD-A1. In order to do this, I need to of course, convince the wife. The breakdown looks like this:
1) Onkyo HT-S990THX, Oppo or HD-A1
OR
2)PS3 and/or Wii at launch, with a smattering of games
We do watch several shows (LOST, Housewives, Grey's, Office, Earl) and we try and watch a movie or two together each week. The HD-A1 has me interested since some great big budget HD-DVD's will be out by the end of the year (Batman Begins and King Kong, for starters). There are also a lot of games coming out for 360 that will occupy my gaming this fall/winter.
Of course this means our budget won't fit for a PS3 or Wii. The PS3 I "think" I can live without...initially, since the launch lineup is lackluster so far and the games I really want (FFXIII and MGS4) are at least a year away. The Wii however, is very tempting at launch. I'll pick up Zelda regardless, but the Wii features are quite intriguing, as is the simple "pick up and play" aspect of the Wii-mote for games like 'Wii Sports'. I was also interested in 'Super Paper Mario' and IGN was reporting that it's moved to Wii.
What would you guys do? The only non-360 games I'm looking at are Zelda and FFXII, and I'll still be able to play them. My DS is also getting a lot of play. I'm just afraid that I'll be inexplicably drawn to the PS3 or Wii by the hype machine, much like I was with the 360 last fall. I know I SHOULD wait, but to me it's a big inner struggle

HELP!
