    Voltron on DVD

Volume 1 of the series is set to be released on Tuesday, September 26. How many of you are planning on purchasing this DVD and was the cartoon your favorite of all time?

I am planning to get it. I probably won't get it right away but it's something i've been looking forward to.

I haven't seen the show since I was a kid but since it was more closely tied to anime style then other japanese cartoon shows of the era I think it'll hold up well.

I'll scoop it as well... I always remembered rushing home after school to catch Voltron at 4:00 on Channel 11.

the fact I still remember the following scares me lol:

"Ready to activate Voltron! Activate interlocks! Dynotherms connected! Intracells up! Megathrusters are go!"

yeah I don't that was a great cartoon. And I remember everything about it. When they couldn't find the key to the blue lion, because the mouse took it lol. Also how Swen got killed and the Princess took over the Blue Lion. Damn I guess having a photographic memory helps.

As good as Voltron was, I have to go with Battle of the Planets as my all time Japanimation favorite. Jason, Mark, Cheops, Tiny and the Girl (I forget her name) G-Force, Fiery Phoenix, Voltar, didn't get much better than that!

You are so right. That was my all time favorite. I could never find a toy of the ship, so I made one out of Lego. I was really good lol. Each one of their vehicle fit in it, just like the real one did. Great call.

Wow I just found out the Casey Kasem did the voice for Mark, the American version. Interesting. And Jason was done by my dads friend Ronnie Schell. That is a trip.

So was there two, I remember two version? One was called Gatchaman I think. It had the same character, but different names. Like Ken and Joe, was Mark and Jason.

                              Never mind found out.

Battle of the Planets was an adaption of an original Japanese cartoon - Kagaku Ninja Tai Gatchaman (Science Ninja Team Gatchaman) Basically, to make it appeal more to Western audiences they removed lots of the violence inherent in Japanese cartoons, and translated and simplified the story to make Battle of the Planets. An even later remake saw the series renamed to G-Force.
