Internet Gambling Bill passes through House/Senate

I know there are some people here that play online poker, bet on sports online, etc.

Anyways, last night, Tennessee Senator Bill Frist was successful in attaching the Internet Gambling Bill to the Port Security Bill. The Port Security Bill ended up being passed by an overwhelming margin. I would go into further detail but I know that it's against the TOS to discuss politics.

What this means is that, in 270 days, U.S. banks will not accept deposits or withdrawals for anything relating to internet gambling (except horse racing).

Guess I have either have 270 days to win as much as I can, or switch to a non-US bank.

And the reason horse racing is excluded from this bill is because it's a favorite of congressman and senators.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

Its not a done deal yet. I use several internet sites to bet on sports, and I would be surprised if they can find a way to completely shut us down. Online books would lose a ton of money, and I don't think they'll let it happen.

Not gonna happen. Besides, most online books use third parties like Neteller to withdraw and deposit money. So, they'd have to blackball those as well. Whatever they come up with, there will be a way around it.

Re: Internet Gambling Bill passes through House/Senate

Maybe the wrong thread, but "spectator" gambling does NOTHING for me, and I don't really understand what people get out of it.

It's not like I'm risk-averse, so that's not why. I've also tried it(won and lost), so its not due to ignorance of the process, or the supposed "rush" of a win. I just don't get the big deal about risking your own hard-earned money on something you have no direct control over(and if you think you do, you're fooling yourself). Sport betting is the worst. You just sit back and watch, at the complete mercy of the teams. People would argue that poker is different, but you're still at the mercy of the cards you're dealt. It really just comes down to guessing, and I don't care to risk money on guesses. To each his own.

I do however, understand wagers on things you can control, like betting $10 bucks on a game of billiards or one-on-one basketball, where everything you do impacts the game and your opponent.
I drive a 2005 Toyota Prius Gas/Electric Hybrid. My last tank was 53.6 miles/gallon. Gas prices fear me!

Oversimplification is the escape of men who want to avoid the duty demanded by true understanding.
