Re: Media titans pressure YouTube over copyrights

most of the stuff i watch is just rebroadcasts of actual tv shows.

i might end up actually using my cable service now. lol.

sadly for me, its maybe 10 bucks a month.

i like the convience of watching stuff i missed rather than figuring out what time it comes on and recording it

I understand this sucks for everyone, but what did we expect?

          It's copyright infringement. It's illegal.

we're frickin envious and pissed off that those two guys made 1.6 billion dollars... thats all there is to it. lol

they got their popularity from all this infringement and cashed out knowing what was to come

It's a brilliant move on the sellers' part. They cash out when YouTube is near its peak in popularity, and before they start taking heat for distributing copyrighted content.

Ultimately, I don't think many people care about little Johnny's violin recital as much as they do clips from television shows, sporting events, and music videos. Thus, it's only natural for YouTube to greatly reduce in popularity when such things are removed.

look at the new top most viewed videos.. its slowly becoming WHAT TO WATCH on CBS.. i swear half of the top videos are cbs videos.. very smart on their part i guess. but i still dont want to watch cbs on my normal tv.

it used to be anime, japanese programming (mostly funny stuff), news conferences like the dennis green (az coach) event, cnn/fox news coverage, and some comedy central stuff.

without comedy central and fox/cnn news footage youtube is dead.

Well 49ersnews' account has died "pours beer over his account".

Look I know it's copyright infringement and all BUT it's not like the people putting up these videos are making money by doing so. Copyright laws as they exist today are very archaic and need to be ammended for the internet generation.

I didn't watch full TV shows, what i'd watch are music videos or performances from singers (thankfully those seem to be mostly intact on the site) and the old NFL broadcast telecasts/highlights. It's not like people were putting up the entirety of a game from oh, I dunno 1995 or something like that. All the folks that put up these very interesting videos didn't say "hey if you want to see more stuff like this visit my site where you buy ____ and _____" or direct people to a 3rd party that sells copies of the clips. There was no money making involved for these people.

Right now i'm in a phase where i'm watching (don't laugh) old Sesame Street skits on youtube. I wonder how soon it'll be before Sesame Workshop and or PBS will come on board and yank that away? Oh well at least I learned in one comment section that there's a new DVD set with classic SS which I now plan to get for Xmas.

my account might get deleted soon.

they deleted two of my nfl hank baskett videos. each with a warning of the next offense being the cause of my account closing.

each came from the NFL, so i think that counts as one.

i have some hbo content on there thats pretty damn popular and actually got people to buy the dvds and take notice of this forgotten show. if anything they should be thanking me for spreading these advertisments on the most popular video site on the net. instead i get slapped in the face.

what are yall doing about content that you have thats "illegal".?

i guess i should just take down everything i have and somehow recreate some of my 2k2 mixvideos with my own music.. however crappy that may be lol

technically anything thats not yours is illegal.

if youre singing in your living room and a tv show is on in the background and its recognizable, in theory you need permission to show your video. just like you making a mixtape of some crazy stunts you did and have aerosmith playing.. they'll delete that too.

even people replaying classic guitar notes or piano keys. i think thats illegal too.

youre literally left with crappy music with very little replayablity.

live performance , i think you still need the artists permission.. just look at bottleg tapes. thats almost what were doing here when we record live shows and share.

Well in my case I don't have any content up. I don't have much stuff that I view as interesting even if I knew how to upload it.

As for live performances and such. I haven't seen them crack down too hard on that. I've seen some classic Soul Train clips get taken down by request of Don Cornelious but that's it.

Wait, so people who are just fooling around and playing a couple notes of a popular song can be sued? What kind of crap is this? I honestly think that goes way beyond the line.
