Originally posted by The_DonI think it was good for Jay-Z to take some time away from music. His lyrics had gotten really boring and repetitive. Instead of hearing tales of the street I felt like all I heard on his albums were advertising for the ROC and how he was the greatest rapper. Hopefully Jay-Z can take his lyrics back to the Reasonable Doubt album and rap about something interesting."Your character is who you really are, your reputation is what you're perceived to be by others" - John Wooden(former UCLA head coach)Comment

Kredit, What I meant by that was, since he has such an enormous budget he might just forget about the dope bargain producers(9th Wonder, Primo) and settle for the high priced mainstreamers(i.e Kanye, Timbaland, Neptunes etc...)"Your character is who you really are, your reputation is what you're perceived to be by others" - John Wooden(former UCLA head coach)Comment

Re: Jay-z is a Liar!
After last night's music video premiere event, I think it's safe put the current Jay-Z on par with the Nelly's, Chingy's, 50 cent's, and Diddy's of the world. Song was just weak all around and the same will probably be true about his upcoming album. Where have you gone Jay-Z from a decade ago.
I liked JayZ's past music better.
Rap in general has gone downhill since Biggie and Pac died. Only Eminem and Dre have produced anything worth listening to over the past 5 years or so.
Nowaday's rap or hip-hop sounds like a bunch of circus instruments while some guy barks like a dog.
There's no rythem or catchy beats to any of the new tunes out there.
Heck, I was watching Chappelles lost episodes a few weeks ago and he did a skit on Tupac. The fake Tupac song they played was the best hip-hop/rap tune I've heard in years. That's pretty brutal when a comedian can come up with something better than the garbage rappers we have now.

Re: Jay-z is a Liar!
He is getting that Coldplay dude for his album too just like Kanye did... Jay-Z is so unoriginal... and he's always been like that. Title of his album is based off the Superman comic of where he comes out of retirement to save the world. Come on!!!
He's gettin Nas on his album too... Nas is coming out with an album that will have Jay-Z on it too...
and more interesting...
one of the songs called "Blunt Ashes" is produced by Philadelphia 76er Chris Webber.SAN ANTONIO SPURSComment

You really don't know the genre. It's o.k. to have an opinion, but yours on hip-hop is not a very informed one.
What I was giving was my opinion, not facts. If I had said that Tupac was born in Alaska, that could be called uninformed. But saying I don't like today's hip-hop is not factualy wrong. It's opinion.
Money, did you not like the new Ghostface album?
Is it any good? Who would you compare it too?Last edited by Money99; 10-17-2006, 12:02 PM.Comment

Re: Jay-z is a Liar!
GMoney - Just Blaze been following a cookie cutter formula lately for the most part. And until he gets off his butt and does soimething with Saigon (trust me, they haven't done jack in almost a year), he's just another beatmaker.
Money99 - There's plently of good rap music out there, you just have to look. With radio stations owned by conglomerates and magazine editors being bought off, the music just doesn't come to us like it did in the past. YOU have to look.xbl gamertag: jiggidyjames72Comment

Re: Jay-z is a Liar!
How is it uninformed? The rap station I listen played better songs 10 years ago. Now the music I hear on it sounds like someone throwing silverware down the stairs while some guy barks out a few lyrics or has some off-rythem rhymes.

Re: Jay-z is a Liar!
Oh I never said you were wrong. I was assuming that maybe you hadn't heard anything beyond MTV, but I would venture to say that if you really dug into the genre, you'd find a bunch of artists that tickled your fancy. I took the Dre and Eminem quote like maybe you only listened to the radio or watched the genre on t.v.
I'm old now so I don't really have that much time to look into new artists so I depend on the radio to dabble into what's going on.
I'm as mainstream as it gets.Comment

You wouldn't be far off with that assessment. I don't have MTV but I try to listen to the hiphop stations on the radio (Detroit).

The "music" you hear on the radio is exactly what you said it was, and has been going downhill since Pac and Biggy.Comment

you got the tracklisting?
I thought the Black album was ok. Blueprint 1 was better. Money, you want to hear some good music from Ghostface? listen to "Supreme Clientele" classic album, trust me."Your character is who you really are, your reputation is what you're perceived to be by others" - John Wooden(former UCLA head coach)Comment
