Re: Firefox 2 released today
I really dont understand how you're memory usage for Firefox is so high. Unless you're downloading crazy amounts of porn, I don't see how it can be so high. Maybe you guys are adding some crazy extensions with Firefox, that causes it to take up so much memory. It's definitely not Firefox, because I don't see how some people get 60-70K and you guys are getting 150k.Comment

Re: Firefox 2 released today
I'm getting 112k right now with just one open tab. The extensions I have installed are weather, adblock, e-mail, IE tab, and tab effect. Tab effect is what is probably causing it to be so high. Had faster fox installed before but that caused other problems.
Isn't a problem and don't even remember the last time FF crashed.Comment

I have FF 2.0 tweaked pretty good and if I have it open for the 8-10 hours I'm at work, by the end it will be around 150K. Right now I'm at 80K after 1.5 hours.Comment

Re: Firefox 2 released today
I just found this on the Mozilla forums and it seems to fix this Alt-S to post issue some of us were having. Thank goodness!!
You can either use Shift-Alt+S to submit or you can change it back to how it was using about:config
Change:
ui.key.chromeAccess to 5
ui.key.contentAccess to 4
This will allow you to use Alt for webpage shortcuts and Shift-Alt for Firefox's menu shortcutsLast edited by fsquid; 03-06-2007, 10:05 AM.Comment

Re: Firefox 2 released today
But I found a few memory-saving tips last month for FF 2.0, and it's using less RAM and running fine.
Take care,

Re: Firefox 2 released today
Some of it depends on how long the browser is open without being shutdown. Some of it depends on certain extensions. The amount one is browsing the web is also a factor.

Re: Firefox 2 released today
Just as an FYI - keeping any browser window open for long periods of time isn't a good idea for various reasons.
I don't see it as a big deal with FF as I think FF beats the alternatives in many other areas. Sure FF does use a lot of memory, but nothing any computer I have and use can't handle.Last edited by mjb2124; 03-07-2007, 05:38 PM.Comment

Re: Firefox 2 released today
Same holds true for any software though. Try keeping Adobe open for a long period of time or not rebooting a Windows OS/Server and you'll likely see memory usage rise significantly. Microsoft even states that their server OS's should be rebooted every few weeks depending on OS.

I know I can close my browser, but I still don't. Doesn't mean I want my browser to crash.Comment

Re: Firefox 2 released today
I agree, it shouldn't do this. It's something I've wanted Mozilla to fix for a few years now, but my guess is that some of the 3rd party extensions or themes are the culprit. Therefore, it might not be Mozilla's fault and is one of the downsides to open source code.Comment
