I'll need to sell my Creative and sell some more stuff to raise the funds, as you know I buy nothing with my money. It's always someone else's cash raised through auction sales. But there's a lot of will on my end, so I'll find a way!

I'm going to lean on you and all of the other iPod cats heavily in here for tips on freeware that will help me get the most out of my new toy in the New Year.

    Thanks,

That's the beauty of it. All of the tools I use to rip DVD's and video, have all been free. And all have worked flawlessly.

IMO, iTunes is another reason why to spring for the iPod. In the beginning, it was a little clunky, but now it's a top notch place to go to find anything you need. Audio/video previews, customer reviews, an insanely huge listing of podcasts, music videos, tv shows and now movies, can't beat it.

I paid off the place in Mammoth, so there's one big expense gone. Now I am just hoarding money ala PK.. You've taught me well.

            Re: why ipod?

Why? Because Apple is now the "coke" of the MP3 market.

            They are the "Xerox".

When people go to the store, they go to get an "Ipod", even if they are looking at other MP3 players, they call them "Ipods".

Apple successfully doimnated the market so proficiently out of the gates that no one can come close to their market share now.

Not to mention...Apple kicks *** and Ipods led me to my first Mac purchases as well...best $$$ I ever spent.

Except companies HATE when this happens. They lose brand identity. Do you use Kleenex or facial tissue? How about Q-Tips or cotton swabs?

Microsoft is unveiling their product, Zune, which I am sure makes Apple happy. As long as there is competition, the iPod name won't lose it's value. It will also lead to innovation, but I think Apple is pretty good at that already.

I have a 20GB 4th Gen iPod that is an album or two away from capacity and have also been looking into buying an 80GB, solely for space. Video's don't really do it for me. I'll also go the eBay route and hope to make up the difference with Holiday loot and American Express points.

whats the best quality video player out there?

ive seen the new archos 604, 504, 404 series. size wise they are smaller in HDD space but feature wise look superior.

anyone have the scoop on the portable video player scene?

Not if you're the CEO of those companies.

I'm interested in checking out the zune. I won't get one, happy with the ipod, but I must admit they have peaked my interest in the things i've seen around the net.

Super easy to rip DVD's too, Itunes is fantastic imo. I've been really, really happy with this device.

I too bought the 80GB video IPOD and love it. I never knew how nice they were until I bought one.

Not progressive thinking, concerned with their brand's trademark type CEOs

I agree that Zune has done a nice job piquing curiosity. Microsoft hasn't oversaturated the market with promotions and advertising yet

That was the biggest surprise to me. I knew they were nice, but when I first got one and used it, I was surprised as to just how nice.

Also this is a site I love, if you have the money and want to personalize your iPod. http://www.colorwarepc.com/ They will protect it more, and make it harder to scratch.
