One of the movies that scared me growing up. The worst though was Children of the Corn. I watched that once when I was 10 or 11 and was absolutely freaked out...for years. I saw it years later and laughed at how corny it was...but at the time I was terrified.

I was reading Ebert's review of this film (good read: link) and he mentions a deleted scene involving Wendy at the end of the movie:
A two-minute explanatory epilogue was cut shortly after the film's premiere. It was a hospital scene with Wendy talking to the hotel manager; she is told that searchers were unable to locate her husband's body.

Some guy did a really good in-depth analysis of the film, which can be viewed here.

Definitely touches on a lot of things I have never picked up on.

Bad mistake to watch this movie for the first time at 11:00 PM. I couldn't sleep the rest of the night. The next-to-final frame of Jack put the icing on the cake (although it has been spoofed in subsequent years by The Simpsons and South Park).
