I want to preface this by echoing that the format war is far from over. Moving on..

LOL, your sig is beautiful, man.

I agree that Heroes and Star Trek are a big deal, but those are pricey TV box sets.

Movies are still the biggest draws in home video, and of the current top 10 grossing films of 2007, blu-ray has 5 exclusives (Spider Man 3 - #1, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End - #3, Ratatouille - #7, Wild Hogs - #8, The Simpsons Movie - #10). The remaining four are dual format, and only one HD DVD exclusive, Knocked Up.

Of the top 25, blu-ray has 12 exclusives, 9 dual format releases, and HD DVD has 4 exclusives (Evan Almighty, Knocked Up, The Bourne Ultimatum, I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry).

Biggest items in the pipeline, eh? Maybe, but what else is there on HD DVD?

Dude, you must have something against HD-DVD..........because you continuously bash them whenever you get the chance. Do you realize that this format war is far from being over, and until Universal decides to leave for BluRay we will have 2 formats.

I don't see Spiderman and Disney doing anything.................everyone has said the same thing with many releases on HD-DVD and BluRay, just wait till movie "X" releases and it will wipe the floor of the other format. Only real reason right now that BluRay is winning is because they count all of the PS3's that are out there. Imagine if the PS3 wasn't out, you think BluRay would be winning?

Whoulda, shoulda, coulda doesn't matter. Sony gambled by making the blu-ray standard in PS3s, and from the video format standpoint, it's paying off.

Number of PS3s don't even count toward software totals, so I don't see how that ties together, though. Hardware numbers, sure, but stand-alone hardware numbers are much closer between the two.

Hell, only 40% of PS3 owners are even aware of blu-ray movies, with 50% of that 40% having even watched one blu-ray movie. God forbid those percentages go up.

Slayer, I own both formats so to me it really doesn't matter who wins. But certain people around here continue to make statements like that the war is over with on these formats which we know is so untrue.

I agree far from over. I wish we did just have one format from the start much easier on the consumers! As for thinking the format war is over highly unlikely I remember working at Funcoland/gamestop a while back when the original xbox launched people said the same thing it won't last it cant look at dreamcast now it has turned into a great system and it sells too!

In the end, most of us have both. If HD-DVD fails, our players will still work, so we'll be ok

Yup, plus if it fails you know that the HD-DVD technology will be incorporated into the BluRay players just like DivX or VHS/DVD combos as an example. None of our movies will go to waste.

Not a rib, but hell, some people still watch laserdisc.

I think HD DVD will be similar, if it fails. A dying format with a few die hards, and a couple of artificial "Holy Grail" titles (similar to The Frighteners on LD).

Francis Ford Coppola Goes All In for Debut Blu-ray Release 'Bram Stoker's Dracula'

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has revealed final specs for the October Blu-ray release of 'Bram Stoker's Dracula,' which is headlined by the extensive participation of legendary director Francis Ford Coppola.

Coppola has long been one of the most forward-thinking of Hollywood's elite auteurs, having created an in-house high-definition division at his American Zoetrope production company several years ago to oversee the mastering and supplement production for all of his films on disc.

Though Coppola and Zoetrope have already remastered most of the director's films in HD for release on standard-def DVD (including such classics as 'The Godfather' trilogy, 'Apocalypse Now' and 'The Outsiders'), 'Bram Stoker's Dracula' will be his first to hit next-gen disc -- as originally announced late last month, Sony plans to debut a brand-new special edition of 'Dracula' day-and-date on Blu-ray and DVD October 2.

Now comes word of the various special features to be included in this new edition, and -- unsurprisingly -- they include the participation of Coppola himself, with the director having recorded new introduction and audio commentary expressly for this release. Also included on the disc will be deleted scenes, four featurettes ("The Blood is the Life," "The Costumes are the Sets," "In Camera: The Visual Effects of Dracula" and "Method and Madness: Visualizing Dracula"), plus a special Theatrical Trailer for the upcoming Coppola film 'Youth Without Youth.'

Tech specs will include a newly-remastered 1080p transfer at the film's original 1.85:1 aspect ratio, as well as uncompressed PCM 5.1 surround audio.

Sony has set a $28.95 list price for the Blu-ray.

Hey guys, I just got the 300 HD DVD.. did yours have an insert with the chapter titles? Mine didn't and I found that really odd. Also, is the cd just blank looking? No cd art?

Yep, I know people who do.

I've said it before, HD-DVD feels like it's for the more hardcore, laserdisc crowd, while Blu ray feels more main stream.

Maybe last year, but for movie lovers, it's hard to argue against sheer volume (even if blu-ray has had a few duds in title selection).
