Even more important, if MS can stop Sony dead in their tracks or put that needed dent into this format war.........it also royally hurts the PS3 to a degree. Sony continues to use the PS3 as a vehicle for this war...............so MS just decides to one up them and throw cash at 2 of the bigger movie companies.

I laugh so much at some of the BluRay fanzies as I read this at other forums, their acting like this isn't a big deal at all. If Sony swallowed them up exclusively, they would be having wet dreams in an instant.

With Universal, Weinstein, Paramount, and Dreamworks on one side, this format war is long from ending.

Now that Shrek the third is exclusive, with Transformers being produced and distributed by Universal, Paramount, and Dreamworks SKG, and executive produced by Microsoft..........I think its HD-DVD exclusive now.

Now I have hated Paramount's dvd releases in the past since so many of their dvd releases were barebones for a higher price point. I just hope this doesn't continue with HD-DVD.

    What's New

Reports now seem to indicate that already announced Blu-ray titles from Paramount will not be released.

Sources says that Blu-ray sales will come from existing inventories only. We are trying to get this confirmed. If this is the case already announced titles like Face/off, Top Gun, Jack Ryan Collection and NEXT will be HD DVDs only.
If anyone wants Paramount titles already released on Blu-ray (Aeon Flux, Mission Impossible, Sleepy Hollow), they better go out and get them before the inventories are depleted.

I'm not sure why this is a fanboy "us vs them" argument for so many people. I'm not acting like it's not a big deal - it is a big deal because it extends the length of this war and it brings us one step further away from one format winning out. I have a PS3 and own all BDs, but if HD-DVD won right now I'd say OK and get myself an HD-DVD player. On top of that, everyone who's sitting on the sidelines now unwilling to take the plunge with one format would finally buy a high definition player and high definition DVDs would start to enjoy a greater market share. I don't really care which format wins - just pick one and go with it.

Prior to this development, we were one studio away from having all movies available on one format. Now you've got a format with 35%-ish sales picking up a major studio contract to try to get back into the game. If Sony swallowed up Universal, I would be having "wet dreams" because it would mean that one format had won. This back and forth is just bad for everyone, regardless of what format they've supported during the infancy of the high definition disc.

I would take that Digital Bits article with a grain of salt. The only 1 with an agenda is Bill Hunt. It's funny that when Microsoft announced the deal with DISNEY for distribution of their catalog over the XBL Marketplace was announced he wasn't calling for Microsoft's head you know why, because DISNEY was still exclusive to BDA.

Now that Paramount has gone exclusive, Microsoft is the Evil Empire... I guess SONY giving the BD Exclusive Studios Financial Benefits to stay exclusive doesn't count

LOL, I've posted big blu-ray news the past few months..one or two posts, in response. One studio goes HD DVD exclusive, the thread goes bananas.

          Fanboys! :P

          Seriously..

Blu-ray still has the bigger share of major and small studios, along with heavy hitters like Apple & Dell. For the "are those companies, Microsoft" comments, well, Microsoft wants both to go away. Evidence lies in the many articles I've posted in this thread.

I agree 100% with Sherik's post. This just lengthens the war, and it doesn't help any one format win, just survive.

I don't get this "us vs. them" stuff either with this war. I'm format neutral since I own both, so who wins doesn't matter to me..........but I'm excited to see that HD-DVD still has a fighting chance. I do agree that this back and forth slugfest is not good for the consumer as it only confuses people even more. It is such a nice format that I would hate to see it go to the wayside. Anytime I go to the hardcore Highdef sites, people are spilling blood in the forums over their prefered format, same goes with a few guys over here.

I see this war as the videogame console war, you have 3rd party companies supplying product for both and then you have the 1st party exclusives,

LOL! How did this thread go bananas? If this was BD going exclusive w/Paramount and Dreamworks, you would be going bananas. This thread is for discussing this type of news.

I think that Sony wants MS to go away, and vice versa with MS.............I'm not denying that but I think your the one with the shutters down as Sony could do no wrong in your eyes. This is a cut throat business, both MS and Sony would probably be happier with the other not existing at all.

If anything, I see Warner Brothers being the next to make a move.

I'll let the thread expanding a full page or two off of one news item speak for itself, in terms of how the thread "went bananas". It's just a comparison of reception.

I only seem so pro-Sony, because most are so unrealistically pessimistic.

Microsoft didn't resort to their pocketbooks to ensure HD DVD's continued success (HD DVD owned 2006, bar none), because they have more faith in digital distribution. Facts over opinions, do the research.

The "I have both argument formats" doesn't hold water. You all obviously have a preference and it shows.

Just give me a damn movie in Hi-Def with advanced digital audio. Is that so hard? Should I really have to buy all this crap, have three different types of media boxes (that don't even sit well with each other) just so I can watch a damn movie in amazing quality in my own home?

What's next? Lionsgate releasing their own format and player just to watch their films: ADVD - Awesome DVD.

Give me a break. If this had happened with the music industry it would have hurt it beyond belief. Then studios wonder why no one really buys this crap.

Well I'm off to Best Buy this morning to see if the A20 will fit in my slot. If it does, I'll likely be powerless to resist and will be coming home with an HD-DVD player and a few movies ('King Kong' and 'Batman Begins' for starters).

Too bad no stores carry DVE-HD.

                                DVE-HD?

Which is the Toshiba player that doesn't do 1080P? Is that the A2 or A20? One of them doesn't.
