I googled just because I was curious and I found this one forum.hd-dvd.com
avsforum.com is another excellent resource imo for HD-DVD and BluRay talk, they have a lot more traffic than HDD.

Their an ok site, sometimes can get rowdy there....but it seems to have calmed down since the forums were locked for a week back in November.

How did the walls all come crashing down on HD-DVD group in January 2008 is beyond me. Did they not realize about these contracts were coming up and just riding high on Hardware sales?

I don't think I'd want to be an active poster at avsforum, but if I want information on a tv or other stuff, and I want in depth info I go there...At the same time the people there can be kinda scary, i dunno.

You know how passionate we are about gaming/sports games? They can be even more so about a reciever...I guess I say "scary" but it's just kinda intense when you're not quite into everything that much.

Paramount Delays 'Into the Wild,' 'Things We Lost in the Fire' HD DVDs

Paramount has announced a street date delay for its HD DVD releases of 'Into the Wild' and 'Things We Lost in the Fire,' pushing both titles back to early March.

As we've previously reported, the studio originally announced the two HD DVD releases for February 12, day-and-date with their standard DVD counterparts. This new street date bump will now see all versions of the two films hit store shelves three weeks later, on March 4.

HD DVD/Universal Statement Coming Today (Jan 10th)

2:00 pm ET January 10, 2008 -- The HD DVD Promotional Group is expected to release a statement this afternoon refuting claims that Universal is jumping ship to Blu-ray.

While it's not clear what the statement will say, HD DVD indicated at CES that it still had full support from Paramount and Universal -- the last two major Hollywood studios to be backing the format exclusively.

However, without actual exclusive contracts in place, Universal could still decide to switch allegiances in the future.

It's not clear what led to the Variety claims, but they follow similar rumors reported by the Financial Times -- and later disputed by the studio -- that Paramount would go Blu-ray only.

Sources close to the matter say that neither Variety or the Financial Times bothered to contact HD DVD for confirmation before publishing the rumors.

                      Statement from Universal

5:00 pm ET January 10, 2008 -- Universal Studios has officially dispelled the rumors from Variety that it will drop HD DVD and switch to Blu-ray.

                      Quote:
"Contrary to unsubstantiated rumors from unnamed sources, Universal's current plan is to continue to support the HD DVD format," said Ken Graffeo, executive vice president of HD strategic marketing for Universal Studios Home Entertainment and also co-president of the HD DVD Promotional Group.

The response would have come sooner, but many HD DVD executives were on flights home from CES when the incorrect story from Variety broke.

Translation: They will support HD-DVD until their contract runs out. Then they will re-evaluate everything.

Shoot, I took it even more negative than that..........what a horrible announcement, they should have thrown people a bone with a few titles announced too.

If they would just give us Scarface.

There just wasn't anything positive...the only thing somewhat positive was basically saying "we're not jumping ship yet"

Only thing that I do find a bit odd, is after all these shakeups you would think Toshiba would pay some $$$$$ to Universal since their sticking with HD-DVD to announce even 4-5 of their bigger titles:

                                Scarface
                                Slap Shot
                                Legend
Back to the Future 1-3 (Pay Spielberg off)

                                ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

                                These reports just don't stop...lol

                                From Gamespot:
Variety says major Toshiba high-def video player supporter will not renew its sole support of the format when it expires in May.

"Last week, Warner Bros. shook up the next-gen format war with a seemingly impromptu announcement that it would be abandoning Toshiba's HD DVD high-definition video playback format in favor of Sony's Blu-ray standard beginning in May. The blow to HD DVD was followed by a vicious left hook, when the Financial Times revealed that fellow HD DVD supporter Paramount may capitalize on an out clause in its exclusivity contract with Toshiba that specifically pertained to Warner Bros.' defection.

Though the Viacom-owned studio officially continues to stand by its HD DVD exclusivity decision--as does format supporter Microsoft, despite recent reports that Blu-ray support for the Xbox 360 wasn't out of the question--Universal Studios would be the sole major-studio standard bearer for the HD DVD format. However, it now appears Universal may be readying the haymaker that will down Toshiba's video playback standard for the count.

Variety reports that Universal Studios has ended its HD DVD exclusivity deal, though it will continue to only support the format until its current arrangement with Toshiba ends May 31. The report did not indicate whether Universal will exclusively support Sony's Blu-ray format after that date. Speaking to GameSpot, a Universal Studios representative confirmed that, for the time being, the studio will continue to support HD DVD, though they would not say whether Blu-ray support is also on the agenda.

Sony's Blu-ray high-def video player, which is prominently advertised as one of the primary draws of the PlayStation 3, enjoys the lion's share of support from major motion picture studios. In addition to Warner Bros., the Walt Disney Company, 20th Century Fox, and Lionsgate all support the format exclusively. New Line Cinema and HBO, both subsidiaries of Time Warner, also reportedly revealed during the 2008 Consumer Electronics Show that they would follow Warner Bros. as Blu-ray exclusive studios"
