Any unknown/unsigned bands you guys like?

I was starting to think about this today because I've discovered two good bands recently, one unknown and one unsigned.

HourCast seems to be a relatively unknown band. I know they have a commercial on MTV2 for their CD, but I don't watch MTV2 so I haven't seen it. However, when I went to see Breaking Benjamin & Godsmack in concert, Hour Cast was the opening band and they were surprisingly good. Their lead singer looks emo but definitely isn't. They kinda sound like a mix of Breaking Benjamin and Mushroomhead (but more Breaking Benjamin). Their top songs are Lunar and Freeze, and Sakkara was on the Saw III soundtrack.

Octane is an unsigned band out of Philadelphia. I heard them on Opie & Anthony. They were doing the "walk over" portion of the show between their regular radio & satellite radio portions of the show. They were pretty much set up along the way like a normal bunch of street performers and they did a damn good job considering all they had were two guitars, a bongo, and some normal wireless mics put in their face. I'm honestly not sure why they aren't signed because they are better than some of the bands that have deals. Give it time though and I'm sure they'll have a record deal. He's not a band, but an unknown artist is Tech N9ne. If he was from Chicago, the South, New York, or Cali, he'd be blowing up right now. He's big in KC, Denver, SLC, Seattle, and the Bay Area, but is unknown in the South and East coast. Many in the game say he is the most talented rapper out there, yet because he isn't signed with a big label he doesn't get noticed. I'll say this, he might have the best hip-hop album out in 2006.

Well, it depends on your definition of "unknown/unsigned."

If you mean someone who gets almost no radio-play, airtime on MTV, gets Grammy nominations, or has albums which routinely go gold or platinum, then, sure, almost my entire catalog consists of unknown bands. In terms of talent, I could name off a crapload of my favorite artists who haven't gotten their just mainstream attention.

I was thinking of bands that either don't have a record deal/are independant, or bands that are kinda new and are struggling to get on their feet.

Oh, there are certainly a lot of mainstream acts on my playlist, don't get me wrong there. But artists like Mike Garrigan, Angie Aparo, David Ryan Harris, Mat Kearney, Glen Phillips, Teitur and Peter Searcy; along with current bands like Suburban Love Junkies, Five Star Iris, Common Rotation and the Damnwells; and even older bands like Athenaeum, Honestly, Oleander, etc. never quite got the break they deserved.

If I remember correctly I think he had a song on last year's Madden. I agree that he is a very underrated rapper.

Yeah, the song was called, "The Beast." He has the song on his new album, but it's a new version, uncensored. I like it a lot.

Definitely won't be disappointed. Check out not only his new album, but also "Absolute Power" and "Anghellic". "Anghellic" is probably his best work. I'd consider it close to a classic hip-hop album. It's a little dark, but it has great material and lyrics. But "Absolute Power" and "Everready...The Religion" are right behind it in great material.

That stuff is crazy. You go from sober to f***** up after a drink or two. It burns as it goes down. Tech says something about it that's so true in the track, "The Only Defect Is Wakin Up Like "What Happened?" Defintely had that happen when I drank it once.

As far as the song goes, it's hilarious. Especially at the end.
