    TV on DVD?

Do any of you guys pickup TV shows on DVD?

How often do you watch them? Are there any sleepers out there?

I think I've decided to start picking some up. I figured I'd mostly grab shows that have a few seasons in that I never got into for various reasons but wanted to try like Entourage, House and few others.

Does anyone pickup shows that they already watch? Do you find yourself going back and watching episodes again?

I picked up the Office, and I watch that every once in a while. Show is timeless to me.
I don't like the Yankees, I like the Red Sox, I don't like the Lakers, I like the Celtics, I hate the Canadiens and I love the Bruins. Soccer is the best sport on Earth, but most Americans are too ignorant to realize it. I am American.

The only show I seriously collect (meaning I've bought every season so far) is DALLAS.

Scrubs, FG, Futurama (need to find them and start watching... need geek/smart humor again), Monty Python's Flying Circus.

I'm thinking about getting the Simpsons... what else? Maybe MythBusters?

Well I've had to re-buy the first 3 seasons of Family Guy and the first 3 seasons of the Simpsons thanks to our house being broken into. So my collection isn't what it was. I'll get the recent release of Volume 4 of Family Guy soon and probably get a season of Futurama.

Between the wife and I, we have The Shield, Friends, The Office, Rescue Me, Lost, Vegas, Gilmore Girls, Seinfeld, and Grey's Anatomy. We watch a lot of TV on DVD. I like it better.

I cannot recommend Arrested Development enough. Easily one of the funniest shows ever on television...seriously.

              http://www.amazon.com/Arrested-Devel...ag2=slickdeals

There's also the obvious classics: Seinfeld, Cheers, etc.

If you like the Borat Movie, pick up Da Ali G show seasons 1 and 2. Chappelle Show is also popular.

In terms of animated TV shows, you have:
              Family Guy
Simpsons (great dvds for collectors, lots of extras, etc.)
              Aqua Teen Hunger Force

                  Re: TV on DVD?

I have a lot of TV shows on DVD. As for how often I watch them, that depends. Stuff like Band of Brothers I'll watch over and over again. But like, I'm probably only going to watch all five seasons of Alias once. But I could definitely see myself watching Lost over again from the beginning at some point.

I really enjoy watching TV shows on DVD though. It's easier to devote 40-60 minutes to watching an episode of something than it is to watch 2 hours of a movie. Plus, the character development in movies feels really shallow after watching an entire TV series on DVD.

This is a great point. I'm sure my observation has been cleaned up with recent shows like LOST and 24 but the one thing I notice when I watch DALLAS is that you do get all that character development and long story arcs (There's usually 2 main story arcs per season tho season 6 is a season long one) but with DVD releases it's a lot easier to find the small niggling continuity errors and such.

Again i'm sure LOST and 24 covers up the slight continuity errors quite well but i'm sure they're there as well. That's the secondary fun of watching shows like that. It makes the nitpicking and thinking about the storylines even more fun then when you watch on TV every week.

The only show I think worth buying is Curb because most of the other shows are all on syndication. Imo Curb is the funniest show ever.

                          Re: TV on DVD?

I have all the Friends and all the Smallvilles, and also the only season of Firefly.

It's rare that I go back and watch any episodes, that's why I don't have many different shows. I do rent TV seasons quite a bit when I want to pick up a new show. I did that with Grey's Anatomy, Entourage, and 24. I've tried other shows on DVD that didn't stick, but it was nice to have the option of the DVD to try them out.

I'd recommend Entourage for sure. I'd also recommend Firefly if you're ok just watching the episodes they made before it was cancelled, if you like sci-fi/western fusion shows (is that a genre? ).

http://www.tvshowsondvd.com is the definitive place for news and reviews on TV on DVD.

I don't watch regular TV anymore . . . just TV on DVD from the 80s and 50s.

                            Just a small list that I've picked up . . .

                            Greatest American Hero
                            Knight Rider
                            Quantum Leap
                            Allo Allo
                            Gunsmoke (black and white versions)
                            Rawhide
Dead or Alive (with Steve McQueen)
                            Have Gun Will Travel
                            The Phil Silvers Show
                            Car 54 Where are You

There's news that the complete series of the american version of Men Behaving Badly (with Rob Schneider) is going to be on DVD early next year. I'll pick up that one too.
"We were expecting a miracle with Elite, but instead we got Jesus at halfcourt."

                            -OS Radio Show

(I don't remember who said this but PM me who did say it, and I'll quote him properly)

Bought both seasons at Buy.com, and with $20 off at Google Checkout, it's like getting an entire season free. The total came to $38.18 with free shipping.
