Name your top 3 movies of the last 5 years.

In the last 5 years, what would you consider to be the 3 best movies made?

    Personally....

    1. Cinderella Man- If this is on TV...I have to watch it. Great story, acting, you name it. Paul Giamatti was the MAN in this.

    2. Casino Royale- The Best Bond Ever Made. Period. People don't realize how spot on Daniel Craig is as what James Bond is SUPPOSE to be like per the books.

    3. Walk The Line- This movie more than anything got me interested in listening to Johnny Cash. Awesome flick.

Lost in Translation - Changed my answer after after pk500 joleted my memory. Definitely one of Bill Murray's top performances and a great job of directing by Coppola. This movie is great.

Sin City - One of the best graphic novel adaptations ever. That movie was awesome on all fronts.

Training Day - my man Denzel did his thing, just like he always does. Looooove this movie.

      1. Spiderman 2.
      2. Spiderman 1.
      3. Old School.
P.S. The Notebook would be the WORST movie I have seen in the last five years. Went with the wife, didn't know what I was getting into and went and got a movie magazine to read during this made-for-TV stereotypical drivel masquerading as a movie.

            1. City of God. One of the best movies I've ever seen.

            2. The Departed. Really, one of Marty's best. And don't tell me the ending was bad.

            3. Sin City. Wow. Just visually stunning and so true to the source material it's outrageous.

            4. Little Miss Sunshine. Movie had me in stitches, and it had heart.

            5. Murderball. Yeah, it's a documentary but the guys in this movie are amazing. Amazing, and insane.

edit: Wow, I'm stupid. Came in to post and thought it was top 5 of the last 5. Oh well, I'm sticking with it.

Re: Name your top 3 movies of the last 5 years.

              In order:

              1. "In America" -- Jim Sheridan's semi-autobiographical film about a young Irish family emigrating to Manhattan, overcoming unreal odds while living in Hell's Kitchen. Told through the eyes of the oldest child in the family, which uses love to survive in a new country while dealing with the grief of losing a child to cancer. The most poignant, moving film I've ever seen.

              2. "Lost in Translation" -- Arguably the best role of Bill Murray's career. Asks a lot of questions about mid-life crisis, with some answered, some left hanging. Great movie. You watch Sofia Coppola's HORRID acting in "The Godfather III" and realize she directed the brilliant "Lost in Translation," and you understand this woman made a hell of a career choice to move behind the camera.

              3. "Minority Report" -- I hate Tom Cruise. I hate sci-fi. I think Spielberg is overrated as a producer of primarily "popcorn flicks." But I LOVED "Minority Report" even though it contained Cruise, sci-fi and Spielberg. What tension. What drama. What great acting. What a cool story. What an understated, gripping, vulnerable performance by Cruise -- easily the best of his overrated, bloated career.

A common denominator in two of these three movies? Actress Samantha Morton. She was the lead female android in "Minority Report" and played the mother of the family in "In America."

Few actresses could play a role with such power and vulnerability without saying a word as Morton did in "Minority Report," and her understated power and dignity in "In America" were fantastic. She is the most underrated actress in the world.

Two of the most overrated movies of the last five years were released last year -- "Crash" and "Good Night and Good Luck." Both sucked.

              Take care,
              PK

                    1. City of God. If you love this movie, rent the series from Netflix called City of Men. Its a show from the slums of Rio. By the same director.

                    2. Sin City

                      2 - 25th Hour

                      3 - Downfall

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - Cool story. Good acting. I like all of Charlie Kaufman's schtuff.

Motorcycle Diaries - Inspirational. Beautiful cinema

Snatch (2000) - I know, I know, this is six years old. Still couldn't leave it off. I appreciate Guy Ritchie's irony. Stand out performances by Brad Pitt and Jason Statham.

                        Almost made the cut

Mad Hot Ballroom - Cool documentary about inner city NY kids and a city commissioned dancing program.

Little Miss Sunshine - Well acted, well written - Hilarious

Wordplay - Quirky documentary featuring the craziness that is crossword puzzle fanatics

The Aristocrats - Not for everyone. I found it hilarious

I hated the Bourne Identity. As a book, it was fantastic. I watched the movie after reading the novel, and was terribly disappointed.
