Re: Prince To Perform @ Halftime During The Superbowl

intresting(spellin' this like i'm sayin' it) take here:

    TOP 10 Of All-Time

    1)PRINCE

“Prince is well known for being able to play many instruments and there is no doubt within the music industry that he is one the worlds leading guitarists. Prince taught himself to play by the age of 13 and by 16 was able to play Santana note for note. When he hit the mainstream with his first album at the age of 20 he was already being compared to the likes of Hendrix. And he still had a long way to go. One thing that become apparent very early on with Prince was that he wasn’t tied down to one style of music and excelled with a versatility not seen in anyone else before or since. Because of this versatility not all his released music is guitar focused and therefore he hasn’t always been judged for his skills as a guitarist. Arranging and Producing his own music from the beginning Prince has also become an extremely adept guitar engineer in the studio and live on stage with an ability to manage a wide range of effects simultaneously, whilst also arranging the other band members’ sections. His ability to play guitar at the top of his game in all styles of music shows how skillful he is, and there has not been one stage he has performed on where he hasn’t torn the house down. From loud, dirty, distorted and burning fast to slow acoustic and emotionally charged playing, Prince’s range on guitar is even larger than that of his vocal range. There are technical guitarists and there are talented guitarists and then there is simply Prince.

“Musical genius who has mastered all known instruments known to man! Not really! But is Eric Clapton’s favorite guitarist!

“You have to give it to this guy. Very underrated as a guitar player, it’s a shame his public image over-shadows the incredible talent this man possesses. Dig a little, check this guy’s guitar playing, a little bit of Santana, a lil’ bit of Hendrix, with his own stamp on it! Could play any style with anyone and still come out on top! You should also hear this guy play piano too!

Oh woe is us. Would that we were as cultured and musically developed as you guys who love Prince. Hell, even Dave Chappelle spoofed what a whack job Prince is. I don't think anyone is saying that 50 should be invited to perform at the Super Bowl instead of Prince. But there are certainly a vast number of talented bands who rock out and aren't purple-clad ***-bearing clowns like Prince. Maybe Audioslave? Tool? Dylan? The surviving members of the Who? Trey Anastasio? I went to the Super Bowl a few years ago and Paul McCartney rocked the house.

Just because we hate on Prince doesn't mean we're hating on good music. Prince and football just don't really go together.

I don't mind, i'll be too pumped from the 1st half of good football from my Cowboys.

In all seriousness, I hate the NFL. A better choice would have been K-Fed. :y4:

but how can you hate Prince. His material is so vary that there have to be a couple of songs people like. It seem people are more caught up by his image than his music. I am not a big Prince fan but I like tons of his stuff and no one is better live except Meatloaf or Doug E Fresh.

Doug E. Fresh is good live?!

Anywho let's hope Prince performs his less um how shall I put this explicit songs. I don't really like his stuff but there's a couple songs I like "Kiss" and that caddilac song. I think it's called "pink caddilac" or something like that.

I like this choice too. Prince is the man. Great musician. Definitely a living legend.

And besides, Prince is no doubt going to have all the live and fine women in the house dancing and jumping around in his halftime Super Bowl performance (and the cameramen better catch them!). So even if you don't like his music, you can still at least appreciate him for that.

I think you guys are seriously underestimating how diverse Prince's catalog of music is. The man can play some rock n roll, especially live. Getting my hands on some of his live bootlegs is arguably the best stuff I've ever gotten.

Little Red Corvette. I believe Aretha did the Pink Caddilac song.

I know I'm a big Prince fan. Would'nt say big but you gotta respect the mans talents. His greatest hits cd is still in my rotation after 5 years.

I'd take Purple Rain, Thieves in the Temple, Kiss, Sexy MF, Rasberry Boret, Diamonds and Pearls, Nothing Compares, 1999, Delirious, etc, etc...his hit list goes on and on.

On a serious note, he recently came out with a cd earlier this year(recent as in new material in this decade) so I'm not banking on him pulling out the cataloge instead going for his more recent songs to sell some copies. Then again, not having at least 1 or 2 classics performed would be blasphemy.

I could see Prince doing "Fury" and maybe one more track off of 3121 (which is a good album, but it leaves you wanting Purple Rain or 1999), then go into a Purple Rain and 1999 stint. How long is the half-time show anyway? 20 minutes at the most?

Graphik thanks for the correction there.

Wow I forgot "(party like it's) 1999" was a Prince song. For all his weirdness he still is a heckuva artist. He's the bridge between the funk of the late '70s and modern RnB.

I like to put him in a class all by himself. From his vocal range, his subject matter, his versatility with genres, his longevity and his image, he's a one of a kind.

Without a doubt. For every person who says pop is a brain-dead genre, I give them Prince.

Yep, probably the last fully expressive artist ever. Most artists today are pre-packaged and have a set "Identitiy" even the niche independent guys. It's all pre-made IMO.

Prince has cross-cultural and cross-generational appeal, which usually is the goal of the NFL in choosing halftime entertainment.

Audioslave, Tool, Dylan, The Who and Anastasio are staples of white, male American music fans. The NFL audience is a wee bit wider than that.

It also doesn't hurt that Prince can rock as hard as any of the bands you mentioned, if not harder.

                                Take care,
