Here's a great writeup Stephen King did for Entertainment Weekly at the beginning of the season for the Wire (HBO sent him preview copies of the entire season). I thought his last two sentences summed up the quality of the show perfectly:

I'm surprised I haven't seen this show, especially since it's set in B-more, but I'd be more surprised if I liked it better than The Sopranos, but who knows. I don't want to pick it up in mid run. Sometime next year I'll shell out some bucks for the pricey 1st season DVD.

Discussing race within the context of a TV show is against the TOS? You've got to be kidding me.

Dreamgirls does it big with THREE Golden Globe Awards:

        Best Supporting Actor: Eddie Murphy
        Best Supporting Actress: Jennifer Hudson
Best Movie, Musical or Comedy: Dreamgirls

Congratulations to those two for bringing the movie to life. It's safe to say they deserved it, especially Jennifer Hudson.

Martin Scorsese did win best director for The Departed, but did not win the best motion picture.

Leo DiCaprio had two chances at best actor but that crown was taken by Forest Whitaker in "The Last King of Scotland." I'll have to see both those movies on the DVD. Even though I did see the Departed for free but too much went over my head for first-time viewing.

                    Re: Golden Globe Nominations

Very disappointing to see The Wire not nominated for anything. It's definitely one of the best shows on tv. Even the lightly edited reruns on BET are better than a majority of the stuff on tv. 3 (of 4, imo) great seasons, no rewards except the oh so useless "critical acclaim".

As for Dreamgirls, while I am glad to see Eddie Murphy get recognized, I saw nothing in that movie that warranted all the attention it's been getting. I though Jennifer Hudson did a fine job for her first movie, but again, nothing that warrented all the hype. I just charged it to a down year.
                    PS: You guys are great.

                      Agreed, congrats Hugh!

House is the best show on TV IMO (granted, I haven't seen any episodes of the Wire if it is all it is made out to be), but I got the boxed sets for XMAS, and watched them both in only a few days. Laurie is THE best actor on TV right now.

I'm so glad Eddie Murphy won the Best supporting actor category. The guy deserves recognition after a somewhat up and down career the last decade or so.

I'm glad too, but Eddie's best movies came early in his career with throughly entertaining flicks like 48 Hours, Beverly Hill Cops 1&2, and Trading Places.
On another note I recall Ben Stiller being self depreciating about Night At the Museum when presenting one of the best pictures at the GG, but the movie has smashed the box office at $210 million.
