Re: 2006 Album of the Year

I voted for other. However, if given the choice, it would have been one of these:

 Still Searching - Senses Fail
 Phobia - Breaking Benjamin
The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me - Brand NewComment

Re: 2006 Album of the Year

Both of those albums came out in 2005. Were they re-released as a double album this year or something?

My best of doesn't include anything listed thus far. My favorites are:

 1. Edguy - "Rocket Ride"
Tough choice between this and my number 2 but I've been listening to this one consistently since March. It also features what I consider the best song of the year, the opening track "Sacrifice." Just a fun, fast, album with some tongue in cheek humor and a nice blend of modern rock/metal and old school 80's music like the Scorpions and Iron Maiden.

 2. Blind Guardian - "A Twist in the Myth"
This one blew me away. A very varied, unique sounding album with a lot of great hooks and musicianship. The lyrics are imaginative, the choruses big, and the pacing smart. This one will take you on a ride.

 3. In Flames - "Come Clarity"
In Flames finally returns to form after 2002's mediocre "Reroute to Remain" and the awful follow-up "Soundtrack to Your Escape." "Come Clarity" features the some of the newer elements found on those two albums, but handles them better and blends them in with their classic sound. The opening track "Take This Life" is a blistering, hard-hitting track reminiscent of In Flames old. The title track shows that they can also divert from the norm and do so with strong results. From start to finish, an excellent album.

 4. Iron Maiden - "A Matter of Life and Death"
A solid effort from some industry mainstays. The pacing holds this one back a bit as almost every song starts of slow and then picks up the tempo. It's still a good album though and shows that they still got it. Songs like "The Longest Day" and "For the Greater Good of God" are among the best they've ever written. This is also their only release to crack the Top 10 in the States.

 5. Nocturnal Rites - "Grand Illusion"
A solid power metal-type album. It's not the type of album that blows you away, but at the same time you keep coming back for more. There are some really catchy tracks and the albums ends on a high note with the song "Deliverance." A good album.Comment

 Pete Yorn - Nightcrawler

It was my favorite album that I purchased this year. It kind of wins by default because I wasn't too impressed with anything else I bought.Comment

And just like Day I Forgot, was a total disappointment. It's a shame he hasn't been able to recreate the magic of musicforthemorningafter.Comment

Re: 2006 Album of the Year

It took a long time for me to be able to listen to Day I Forgot all the way through on a regular basis, and it's been the same story on Nightcrawler. Quite a few good tracks, most of which were available before this release. For having 3 years in between albums, I thought he could have done a better job on it.Comment
