Archie Comics get a makeover

Head to the link above for the lowdown and a picture of the new look. I remember collecting Archie comics when I was a kid and I have to ask - what's the point of this? Part of what makes something like Archie timeless is the fact that it hasn't changed over the years. It's like going to Disneyworld. Sure a lot of the rides there haven't changed in years or kept up with the latest technology, but that's what gives them their timeless charm. Nobody wants to go and see modernized versions of their favorite rides just because that makes them "contemporary."

Why bother reinventing something like Archie? You're only going to make its longtime fans hate the new look, while still not appealing to the younger demographic who want something more current and hip. It's dumb. It makes me sound old, but I wish some things could just be left alone instead of "modernized" like this. Create something new if you want to go in another marketing direction, but don't ruin what's already timeless and successful.

I don't think it looks that bad, but considering Archie has been the same style for so long, it's kinda strange. I'm sure it won't stay like this forever. Actually I bet Archie Comics will have different titles with different art to appease all fans.

If you ask me Veronica's looking pretty hot (could be the blue hair) and those lips could give some sweet loving, if you look close enough I think her nipples are erect in that picture. Betty on the other hand looks like she needs some breast implants, I know she's the poor one but I'm sure Veronica could spot her a few thousand for it. That Gwen Stefani rack just ain't cutting it.

OMG as a fan of the Archie comics as a kid and someone who likes the stories for their charm this is just a horrible move.

I mean how the hell are they supposed to make a realistic Jughead? It's Impossible!

Seriously tho, there is a silver lining to this. I like the fact that they're going for longer stories rather then the short comic story format that they've used for an eternity. I don't like the look at all but if I were in the age bracket for this i'd definetely go for the longer stories unless they get sappy and melodramatic.

Overall i'm leaning towards not liking like this change but I can be swayed in its favour.

Horrible idea. I guess it's their comic and they can do what they please, but it really makes no sense.

My second thought was mainstream entertainment is ruining classic art.

Next we'll have some random 21st century artist redoing the Mona Lisa and some of Picasso's greatest works.

I wonder if this means that Moose gets an intellectual makeover where he can actually complete sentences and doesn't begin each sentance with DUH. It would be the politically correct thing to do and that's what's in these days.

No sir, I don't like it. My mom used to collect the digests and I prefer the old look. I guess this is like Ultimate Archie or something, like Marvel did with a lot of their titles. I don't think this was needed though.

I used to collect the Archies. Loved those damn books. But anyway, since that was back in like....1980-something. You can chalk this up for me in the "I could care less" pile.

I used to collect the Archie comics as well, back in the day. I guess it was an inevitable thing... Even when I was reading them, Archie was running around in that beat up old Model-T looking hooptie. Dude must've had game, since Veronica and Betty were still fighting over him, even with the busted whip.

This is the modernized version of the Archies I like the best...
