That's hot! And I know that my family is one (err... five) of these customers.

But when will things begin to take advantage of it?

            2160P is already old news.

I read an article in Macleans Magazine saying a company was working on Ultra HD which is 16 times the resolution of current HD.

I imagine it would take decades for broadcasters to air Ultra HD programming.

But on the other hand, HD-DVD/Blu Ray can do 1080p already and video games will probably be 1080P in the next generation (in 4 or 5 years.....if more people have 1080P tv's by that time). That's plenty of 1080P content IMO.

Coming out with 2160P this early is ridiculous though.

                  Re: 1080P already old news

Yeah, besides the price....that's why my brother bought my parents the Samsung DLP 50" 720p, because there's no need for anything better than that right now.

And today, DTV crapped out on our "HD installation" AGAIN. First time they were gonna come, the wind knocked out power @ our house so they couldn't come. They came and then left. Then they postponed it to yesterday, but a few days ago they called and postponed it to today. Finally, they came today, and said they couldn't do it because there are some trees blocking our signal.

So basically, we have this awesome TV, and I won't be able to watch HD Football this weekend, unless I just go buy an OTA-antenna.

Sorry for the mini-rant....but damn, I want to see 2160!

It is funny because people will line up to buy this thing when it hits the shelves even though nothing on the market will actually take advantage of the higher resolution. As long as people feel the ridiculous need buy the latest and greatest technology, companies won't ever stop upgrading.

So if I am buying a PS3, what is the incentive to pay more to buy a 1080p tv if my tv size will be 42"?

Well the ATSC HDTV standard is still 1080p, so unless the industry tech heads are going to re-evaluate the digital television standards (and with the constant delays for the digital switch ANYWAY) I don't see the point of anything beyond that.

None what so ever. Nothing will be broadcast in 1080p for years, if ever. Only thing that will use it is Blu-ray and even then, at 42" you're not going to notice a difference in 1080i and 1080p.

Ok, I have a guy telling me that GRAW 2 in 1080p looks 10x better than 1080i. Is he just blowing smoke? It's a 42" Sharp Aquos.

I'm curious because I'm going to be in the market for a larger TV and I just assume go with 720p/1080i if there is no definate difference.

                                GRAW 2 isn't in 1080P is it? I didn't think it was.
