Do you know how much waitresses take home though and bartenders? For a job with no education needed, or any true skills you can bring up toward 1,000 a week easy. Sorry, I don't feel too bad for servers if they get a small tip...

I mean, I've heard the argument that is how we get our money, YOU HAVE TO TIP US GOOD. Provide a good service and usually 8 out of 10 times you will get a deserving tip.

So you see from a different perspective. Guess who has to pay those tips....20-25% of the total bill YOU. The US is really the only country in the world that uses tips to pay for the waitstaff staff.

Unless you've worked in a restaurant you'll always see it from that point of view. When you work in the food and beverage business only then will you see how top heavy it is with managers salaries.

If you're content to pay 20-25% in tips because of the crooked system imployed by restaurants go ahead. I see it from a different perspective.

TIPPING AT STARBUCKS!!??!!! WOWSERS!!! They already bleed you dry by charging you 4 bucks for some beans and hot water, and on top of that you tip them! You would have to pry the change out of my cold dead hand before I would give anything else extra to starbucks.

Good point-the restaurant business really is a racket. Why do they get away with paying the minimum wage?

Well, I work at Baskin Robbins. I don't expect tips because we live in a predominantly tight-wad community, but I try to be as cordial as possible with my service either way. Tips are up to them, and they are completely appreciated. Sometimes people dump change, and sometimes people will dump a few bucks if I filled out a big order for them. It really depends. Sometimes I'll have regulars who know me and know how I pride myself with my service, and they show their appreciation and gratitude by tipping.

                Not expected, but 100% appreciated.

I never tip at a coffee shop. never. When out to eat I'll usually tip 10-15% unless the person goes out of their way (or seems to) then I'll usually tip closer to 25%

10% is a pretty lousy tip.

My sister used to make a lot of money off tips when she worked Starbuck's. (I know there's an obvious joke here..)

I usually just tip the change at places that accept tips.

Ohh, those are tip jars? I usually dip in to cover the cost of my cafe latte.

I usually pay with my checkcard and they don't have me sign, so I really don't have the opportunity to. If I pay cash, I'll put in the remaining change, if it's under a dollar.

I would never tip at a coffee shop or a similar place. Considering bartenders and servers make almost there entire income from tips, I usually do 15-20%. (depending on the server, the amount, etc.)

I find the tip jar at Starbuck's insulting. They already charge way too much, and they have the audacity to plop a tip jar out there? Nobody tips me for teaching their kids how to read, write, and play football.

I never and will never tip at starbucks because they are very over rated and put the good coffe shops out of business. The small coffe houses I tip regularly. Yes 10% is a very lousy tip at a resturant.
