      Re: upgrading to vista

Its really not THAT bad. As for the annoying alerts and such. Thats mainly because of all the Beta drivers that were out there, now that most drivers are final builds I haven't noticed the alerts. Also make absolutely sure that you disable UAC(User Account Control) Its the most annoying and worthless feature I have ever witnessed. It will constantly ask you if you are sure you want to do something, and it serves no real purpose to the general PC user. So thats the first thing you got to do, and again just make sure you have the most up to date drivers and then everythings just fine.

It's a resource hog. You better have a powerful PC to run it with the aero interface or it's going to be slow.

I have it on a test PC here and think it's pretty good. I get it for free from work.

I'm running it on my laptop right now. I downloaded it from my work's MSDN subscription. It's not too bad, it takes a little getting used to.

I am testing Vista Business at work at it found most of the hardware out of the box on both 32bit and 64bit versions. It didnt find the Amigo AWI926W wireless card if anyone has one. I have had it running on Athlon X2, Athlon 64 and Penitum D 3ghz-Pentium 4 1.8ghz all ran fine.

Just a note that PC World this month discusses it and they say a brand new install performs 10% to 15% faster than an upgrade from XP. So if I were wanting to run it i'd go the fresh install route instead of upgrading XP.

I agree with that. From personal use as well on different computers.

Been using different builds since March. Got the final one at work and home. It's okay. Than again I'm already pretty used to it.

A little off topic, but does anybody know of any vendors/retailers that are offering educational discounts for Windows Vista?
