    EA Sports on the Decline?

Has anyone else seen this article in the new Game Informer? It's the edition with the game Blue Dragon on the cover.

In the article it talks about how EA Sports games have had declining review scores for most of their games every year since 2004. It's a great read, but there are a few highlights that stuck out to me.

When asked about the decline in review scores an EA rep stated that although they value the reviews for the games, the consumers vote with their dollars, and their sales are doing great so they aren't worried (or so they say.)

The NFL thinks they are doing a great job. The NFL can actually opt out of the exclusive deal with EA at ANY time. The deal is through 2010. If the NFL feels they (EA) aren't doing a good job they can cancel the deal. Some of the criticism on this deal needs to be directed at the NFL IMO. NHL, and NBA said they would not do an exclusive deal.

An EA rep said that the reason their 'next-gen' games are low on features is because they have built their next gen games from the 'ground up', instead of porting from current gen.

I'm no developer, but if you ask me the EA football games aren't built from the 'ground up'. They still still have too many eerie similarities to their current gen counter parts.

If you have the mag, check out the article. It pretty much says what we already know. If EA sells enough, it sees no reason to change. Even if the critics are lowering their opinion as a rule every year.

they're lazy, have no competition and continue to dominate the market. they have been on a decline and it isnt going to change anytime soon, as they said themselves they are selling well(madden specifically is seeing outstanding sales) and not at all worried about their products. why would they change the formula? its made them extremely rich.

as long as the sales are they nothing is going ot change.

      it's called capitalism.

It can be presumed that they will put more effort and time into the games if they stop selling so well.

Every EA Sports game on Next Gen Consoles has sucked, the only one that was even remotely playable was NHL 07.

What they did to NCAA and Madden is beyond comprehension. With those current engines I dont see an end in sight.

Here's what is somewhat baffling to me...........

If it's all about the $$$ with EA Sports, wouldn't it have been LESS expensive to port the old engine from CG into next-gen? And just tweak it from there?

The "lemmings" would have still purchased the game anyway and we wouldn't have to sacrifice so many features and it would be less expensive for EA.

And those comments go for both the football games and NBA Live. They just rebuilt the Live engine for 03 and the ideal Live would play like 04/05 with the new SuperStar moves and a toned-down but still realistic pro-hop. That engine still had potential without it feeling dated IMO.

I would have loved to see a next-gen MLB game from EA this year with the MVP Baseball 06 engine, though. I tried and tried to get into NCAA baseball, but it just ain't happening with me and I'm not passionate about baseball THAT much.

The thing is a lot of people don't want to call a duck a duck. I see the same type of movement, running animations, passing animations, and shooting tweak in the next-gen games when I see those previews. I'm not hating on EA but I don't see any type of improvement from what they were and where they plan on going. The ground up crap is something that everyone has said. Honestly, when they say that stuff yet have the same freaking problems, it makes me wonder what they mean. From the ground up could be like building a building, tearing it down, and building it right back up with a few different tweaks. That's what I see these Lives looking like. I know that there are a bunch of fans of EA sports but man, my eyes just don't deceive me. It's the same stuff they've been putting out for the longest. It's good that they added the tweaks with the slider settings and the supposed procedural awareness, but I'll be darn if they're not rehashing like......Madden......another game in their takeover of the dummies.

Freaking still sour about that license deal. And you know what makes my butt itch (Bernie Macism)?? The fact that the game still looks like it did on the XBOX & PS2. The blind fans are killing my buzz.......

Meh...as the spokesman for the Anti-EA Consumers Foundation(AEACF) and the Grown Men Dating Mature High Schoolers Club(GMDMHSC), I must say that this news doesn't suprise me the least bit. Now that national puplications and sites are starting to state the obvious about EA, can most of you please, seriously, please not buy into the hype each and every year. This will never change without efford from all of you. I know we love sports and sports video games but we need to stop feeding the machine that is EA.

I bet if madden was like a 10/10 game, but every other ea game sucked, people would say Ea was great...

as opposed to what we have now, which is madden sucking balls and having good to great games in rugby, fifa, nhl and ncaa people saying ea is garbage. march madness appears to be a solid title as well.

Not true, Tiger 07 is a good game on the 360.

What's the difference between the last five Tiger games that would make someone want to get them? What have they added that makes the game play more realistically? The thing is EA is making minimal improvements across the boards and people are funding them for that. Though Tiger is great, is it different from Tiger 05??

EA had 2 bad games. People are acting as if they are a POS company now.

people need to realize that just because NBA and NFL ea games are crap, doesn't mean the entire companies games are as well.

This is great. EA also has an honest rep that was interviewed.

                              Allow me to translate.

When asked about what EA's plans for nex gen was as far as development (costs, time, etc...)

"We didn't port anything, but we didnt fix anything either"

When asked about the disaster that NBA Live turned out to be

"Disaster? Listen, we built it from the ground up. You see how pretty it is? We knew the VC puppy fans would run to us just for our looks"

When asked why such a poor effort has been put into the NFL game with the exclusive license.

"David Stern is a money hungry tycoon, and he wouldn't take our money. We just gave you goons what you wanted... another year of rehashed updates. Don't blame us, blame the NFL"

When asked why EA charged full price for under-developed games.

"As long as you zombies pay for crap, EA will bed over backwards to crap right in your hands"

When asked about the declining review scores over recent years

"Review scores? IGN ? We've been pimping them for years. They'll sell out to us like cheap show girls for a few dollars".

What do you think about the fan community outrage of nex gen games released with massive bugs.

"The zombies? They're being played too. Why should we care what they say...just keep giving us the money and shut up".
