Also they say that on an average teacher spend $400 a year on class supplies! That is a pretty big amount.

It makes me more marketable, just like additional credentials make teachers more marketable. I'm not doing it on my own time for the hell of it so I can go get a better job, I'm doing it because my current job requires it.

No, I posted it because it was interesting. And amazingly, everyone else did but you and TJ, who sought to invalidate the study and attack me based on two people's examples - your wives. Everyone else is discussing the issue reasonably and rationally except you, yet the problem is mine because this thread is meant to incite a flame war.

OK on to another. I have a dilemma. I thinking about teaching at J. Hall it is a cake joblol.. And you make a lot more then a regular teacher because you are working 12 months a year. So I am thinking about this. I have a 4 year degree. So I am thinking should I go for it or get some training in Computers? I know you can't help me with this. But this what I am going through right now lol!

ExtremeGamer...does your wife love what she does? Is she extremely passionate about her job? If so, then why should it matter how much she gets paid. I know lots of people who would give up their big salaries for a chance do actually do something they love. But people going into teaching know that the salary is going to suck before they get into it, so I guess I really don't know why people who teach are complaining. Low pay for teaches isn't a secret, so don't complain when you are getting payed jack squat. If you were looking for a high paying paying job then you probably shouldn't have been a teacher.

Teachers in my area start at 40-45K per year. I don't think that's a bad salary by any means for a starting teacher. However, I do know other areas the salaries are very poor.

Both my mother and sister are teachers (this is my mother's last year). In their district, they have something called "The Bump". Once you teach over 18 years in that district, your salary "bumps" to 80K. It will never go any higher, but I think 80K for a teacher is very good money.

With that said, they both do correct papers at night and do report cards and other things. I also work about 2-3 nights per week with stupid IT issues that have to be handled after hours so I know how much it sucks for them. However, for 80K and summers off, I think I'd be happy to do it. Of course there's that small issue of dealing with kids all day that would likely make me pull out my hair.
