well reading the XM website, it has a "merger Q & A".. one of the questions asked "will I need to buy a new radio".. response was "no"..

Will you be able to get the Sirius programming without a new radio though? Or in my case, the XM programming?

they will have to figure it out somehow - ie, maybe shutting the Sirus sats down (or use as backup) & put everything over on the XM ones (better signals) -- just guessing..

One of my concerns about this is the "a la carte" style to choosing programming. While it sounds great, my fear is that they split up the programming into "buckets" that each has something you want, therefore you need to buy more of these "buckets" to get what you want and it costs you more. I like having all of the programming that Sirius offers with my $13 fee, and not having to pay more for the NFL (for example). I'm not sure if it will work that way, but that was one of my concerns after reading this.

Also, I have a feeling they will have a tough time with the SEC, but that is just a personal feeling.

There's no question in my mind the sports packages will be served up "ala carte".
They may be part of the service level that would require the new hardware as well.
Technologically,each services' radio cannot accept the others' signal.
I think the satellite radio business should adopt the razor industry model and basically give away the hardware and make money on the programming.

I think that is what they are going to do too, just like how cable boxes are free and you pretty much choose ala carte packages for the cable services.

It's about the a la carte style of programming coming. Hopefully this service doesn't turn too much into something like cable TV where you have to pay so much to all you want, and then there's a bunch of crap mixed in. All I want is Rock, Pop, and the Sports stations. If they offered that as a cheaper package, that'd be good, but things never seem to work out that well.
