Name any 5 things you would change in the sports world

Not sure what forum to put this in, so I'll try this one....

If you could make absolutely any change to the sports world, no matter how unrealistic or idiotic, what would they be?

    Mine...

    5) Plus-1 post season in college football.
    4) No professional sports league can have more than 24 teams.
    3) Strict salary cap in baseball.
    2) No guaranteed contracts in any sport.
    1) Age limit to play in the NBA is 21.

      1. 4-8 team playoff in college football
      2. Start at the opponent's 40 yd line for college football overtime.
      3. Strict salary cap in baseball

and a couple of my crazier ones but I would think they'd be great:

      4. Count dropped passes in football as fumbles, but receiver that dropped the ball can't recover first.
      5. Get rid of the penalty box in hockey except for fighting and give penalty shots after those fouls instead (like free throws in basketball but with a goalie).

      Atlanta Braves
      - Auburn Tigers - Nashville Predators

Novel idea but it would absolutely kill the flow of the game.

You think so? Basketball is a pretty up tempo game and it works fine. I'm not a hockey fan in the least, so maybe it would. I just know when I do go to hockey games in town, the penalty shot parts are the most exciting IMO and there just aren't enough of them.

            1. 8-team college football playoffs
            2. MLB salary cap (not sure if I'd rather a hard cap or soft cap)
            3. No TV timeouts during sporting events. Do it like soccer and have a sponsors logo by the score/time graphics.
            4. No DH in baseball.
            5. NFL Sunday Ticket, MLB Extra Innings available on BOTH cable and satellite.
            MLB: Pittsburgh Pirates, Colorado Rockies
            NFL: Pittsburgh Steelers
            NHL: Pittsburgh Penguins
            NBA: Denver Nuggets, Orlando Magic
NCAA: Penn State Nittany Lions, Boston College Eagles

Ah see if you watch the average NHL game there are tons of penalties. You get about 18 or so penalties a night combined and to stop play for a penalty shot each time would kill the lustre of the penalty shot and kill the momentum of the game.

You already have the small but very loud voice of canadian fans that think the shootout is gimmicky so doing this would cause some outrage in some quarters.

All those penalties are penalty box fouls? I don't know what the average free throw attempt in basketball is, but I would think it is around 15-20 attempts per team, so that would be around 7-10 trips to the free throw line for each team a game.

But I agree, it would totally change the way the game is played, that's why it falls in the crazy category. But it sure would make it more interesting to me and others that I have talked to about this over time.

                  1- postseason in college football
2- salary cap in Major League Baseball
3- better identification of cheaters in sports (e.g. steroids), and harsher penalties for those who do cheat (season suspension for first offense, expulsion from league after two offenses)
4- fewer commercials during football games, college and professional
5- draft eligibility rules in NBA similar to that of NFL (three seasons removed from highschool)

Only three I'd really care to change...

                    1) Cap in Baseball
                    2) Playoff in college football
                    3) Less commercials in football games.

                      1. 8 or 16 team playoff in college football
                      2. MLB Salary cap
                      3. Better steroid/HGH testing policy
                      4. College basketball players can't go pro till 2 years out of high school (like the NFL)
                      5. NFL OT changed where each team gets at least one possesion. Or do it like college football, but start from the 45 or 50.

                        4. Salary cap for MLB
                        5. Move NHL teams back to Winnipeg, Quebec, Hartford.

                          1. Make NFL Overtime similar to college (probably start at 45)
                          2. Allow NFL teams to exceed cap to sign players already on the team (similar to NBA)
                          3. College Football Playoff
                          4. Expand rules to allow more defense in NBA
                          5. Eliminate MLB all together

                            2. Better Salary cap in baseball that includes a salary floor, and is setup so you can keep your own players, while making it hard to sign FA's.
                            3. 21 year old NBA age limit.
                            4. Go back to the 5 game first round in NBA playoffs and schedule the games better so the playoffs don't last half the year.
                            5. Have UCONN play all home games at Gampel Pavillion and never set foot in HCC again. And make the Gampel student section bigger.
