Best Rock & Roll Guitarist of all time......
According to Classic Rock Magazine-based on a poll of music fans. 10. Kurt Cobain 9. Chuck Berry 8. Eddie Van Halen 7. Rory Gallagher 6. Tony Iommi 5. Dimebag Darrell 4. Jimmy Page 3. Stevie Ray Vaughn 2. Keith Richards 1. Jimi Hendrix I agree with about 5 of them,But-what about like Jeff Beck or Steve Howe over some of these guys?! oh well-It was a poll I didn't take. Want do you think of this poll?Last edited by coffeeholic; 03-08-2007, 12:11 PM.ByurrulzIdon'tfollowTags: None -

I'm not saying Beck or Howe should be in there. I just think some of these guitar players are middle of the road. Oh well,to each his own.ByurrulzIdon'tfollow -

Kurt Cobain in the top 10? A guy who lived on chords? What a joke.According to Classic Rock Magazine-based on a poll of music fans. 10. Kurt Cobain 9. Chuck Berry 8. Eddie Van Halen 7. Anyone who has seen Prince knows he belongs in the top 10. No Steve Vai? No Eric Johnson? No Joe Satriani? I don't like "shredders," but there's little question those guys can play.
And if you're talking influence, what about Tom Verlaine from Television? And George Harrison, anyone?
Clapton? B.B. King? Randy Rhoads? Ritchie Blackmore? Duane Allman? Kirk Hammett? Carlos Santana? The Edge? Mark Knopfler? Slash?
Once again, Kurt Cobain? To put him on that list is beyond comical -- it's criminal.
Take care,

I agree with you guys. BTW-Does it seem Kurt Cobain makes alot of polls because of that "teen spirit" business. I like Nirvana, but come on! Clapton was an excellent choice too. How bout this,if you could rip one of these guys off this poll and put in your vote, who would it be? I'm going with Jeff Beck, knocking out Cobain.Last edited by coffeeholic; 03-08-2007, 12:41 PM.ByurrulzIdon'tfollowComment

Re: Best Rock & Roll Guitarist of all time......
Kurt Cobain makes these lists because he became a convenient martyr for a generation when he blew his head off. Cobain is larger in death than he ever was or probably would have been in life.I agree with you guys. BTW-Does it seem Kurt Cobain makes alot of polls because of that "teen spirit" business. I like Nirvana, but come on! Clapton was an excellent choice too. How bout this,if you could rip one of these guys off this poll and put in your vote, how would it be? I'm going with Jeff Beck. That guy was/is perfection on guitar.
Cobain and Nirvana's timing was impeccable, as anything that came after the "hair band" dark ages of rock in the late 80s would sound original and fresh. Other than Guns 'N Roses, name me a daring or different mainstream rock band from the hair band era. Don't say Metallica -- it wasn't mainstream yet. We were polluted with Twisted Sister, Ratt, Poison, Europe, Whitesnake, Skid Row, etc., so Nirvana sounded like the bastard offspring of the Sex Pistols and The Beatles compared to that dreck.
St. Kurt was good but overrated. My eyes started to roll as soon as I started reading the comparisons to John Lennon in the days after Cobain's death. Give me a f*cking break.
Take care,

If were going to go into the "Seattle Grunge" thing-I'd rather see Jerry Cantrell in there. Alice in Chains did some class act stuff.ByurrulzIdon'tfollowComment

Re: Best Rock & Roll Guitarist of all time......
Agreed. Jerry can play.
Hell, I'd put Jerry, Kim Thayil (Soundgarden) and Mike McCready (Pearl Jam) ahead of Cobain on the "Seattle scene," and none of them would crack the top 10. Probably not even the top 25.
Take care,

Why isn't Prince considered a "rock n roller," Mo?

Well, He ain't even on RSs all-time 100?
I've always considered Prince on the R&B side w/ songs i.e. "1999", "Little Red Corvette","Get Off","Erotic City","Do Me, Baby" All these songs wouldn't be catagorized as "Rock-n-Roll"...would they?
I KNOW "D.M.S.R." & P**** Control sure's hell wouldn't
If the thread read "The Best Of All-Time" then Prince is in the top 3 w/out a doubt!
