Here's some I think should have been there-Brian May(Queen) Alex Lifeson(Rush) Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Billy Gibbons(ZZTop) Buck Dharma(Blue Oyster Cult) Jimi Hendrix as choice number 1-absolutely. I could listen to "Here my train a comin'" all day long!

      Where's Angus Young of AC/DC?

As for the one that definately doesn't belong (like the old 'Sesame Street' song "One of these things is not like the other"), it's got to be Kurt Cobain.

I agree with everything you said pk. I never liked Nirvana that much and I thought the whole band was VERY overrated (IMO). Dimebag Darrell should be on that list, I'm surprised they included him.

I agree that guys like Kim Thayil (Soundgarden) should be ahead of Cobain.

Anyone who has seen Prince knows he belongs in the top 10. No Steve Vai? No Eric Johnson? No Joe Satriani? I don't like "shredders," but there's little question those guys can play.

And if you're talking influence, what about Tom Verlaine from Television? And George Harrison, anyone?

Clapton? B.B. King? Randy Rhoads? Ritchie Blackmore? Duane Allman? Kirk Hammett? Carlos Santana? The Edge? Mark Knopfler? Slash?

Once again, Kurt Cobain? To put him on that list is beyond comical -- it's criminal.

I agree especially about Steve and Joe, but is Richards that good, maybe he is I just don't see it. Blackmore is still me personal favorite. I like Slash a lot too. Harrison is so underrated it is not even funny! Plus Eric is should be in there.

I smiled when I saw that. He never gets any kind of real recognition normally, and yet, IMO atleast, He is one of top 5 ever. Others will disagree and point out to someone who came before, or was on the radio more often, but Dimebag was truly one of the greatest ever.

                  These lists are always f*cked...but...

                  Interesting inclusion:

Robert Quine from Richard Hell and the Voidoids (13th Floor Elevators crossed with Free Jazz horn players, very interesting and unique)

                  Interesting Omission:

Rick Neilson from Cheap Trick (rare ability to play parts that sound like two guitars playing in complementary tandem, also spawned a generation of similar, but lesser mimics)

I consider Eric Clapton in the top two or three of all time so to not make the cut is pretty shocking.

However, Im not suprised, It reminds me of when rolling stone had their list of top rappers and Eminem outranked Nas.

Yeah, they do it for shock value.

Also, I'd put David Gilmour in before Kurt Cobain.

First, greht avatar Motown. Who's chest pillows are those, Jenn Sterger?

Second, I'm starting to get into Jimi Hendrix lately, largely because a friend loaned me Electric Ladyland. I think it rocks my socks, so I'd like to listen to more.
What would you guys recommend as a good second album for getting into Jimi? I've read that the two albums preceding Electric Ladyland have lousy production, especially the one that was released in 1967...

I've heard all his stuff- So-I'd say,go with his live stuff! It will floor you! the energy and showmanship is in a league of it's own. You really can't go wrong with any of them, especially Monterey Pop Festival stuff. Some say the Isle of Wight stuff lacked ability, but that is debatable. He's got all kinds of live recordings, imports, etc. enjoy............

Absolutely! I get tired though of people calling him a Hendrix clone. Influenced by Hendrix? sure-most could say that anyway. Trower belongs in my top ten. "Long misty days" ,good stuff. If anyone here hasn't heard Robin's stuff and likes guitar pyrotechnics at it's finest, cut your teeth on "bridge of sighs" or "for earth below" great C.D.'s!
