    Re: 10 Years already/Miss Ya B.I.G.

Biggie is so revered because there was no one from NYC with the commercial, critical and "street" success at that time. He had records for all occassions (a credit to Puffy) that appealed to everyone. You have to remember the time he came out. It was a lot like today where NYC was overshadowed by another region. Record companies were passing on acts from the east. Then Big and Wu-Tang came out and the pendelum swung back.

While he never had the greatest wordplay or a wide arsenal of different flows, he had one thing that made him so special: he connected with the people. There's more to being a good, or in his case great, MC than being a super-duper positive lyricist.

    RIP BIG

It says a lot about how far rap has fallen that Biggie is still revered as one of the greatest rappers of all time. I own Ready to Die and Life after Death, and I listen to them both a lot, but to call him one of the greatest rappers of all time is straight up laughable. Go back and listen to NWA, Run DMC or Eric B and Rakim if you want to hear great rappers. Biggie was cool n' all, but he doesn't hold a candle to the true greats.

I liked most of Biggie's music over the years, just a shame that he was gunned down. I remember the big rumors being that PDiddy was the one calling hits on Biggie and Pac just so he can steal the spotlight.

Still one of my favorite songs that's on Puff's debut album, featuring Biggie is "Been Around The World".

I know alot of you on here think biggie isn't a great rapper and everyone is entitiled to their opinion, but my point is he died to early. Nas dropped his first album in 94, the same year as B.I.G.. Since Big died, Nas has had 6 albums released. I agree that life after death wasn't the greatest album, but if he was still alive he would of had alot more albums released and that would of made it easier to determine his status among hip hop legends. 2pac first 2 albums wasn't his greatest. Pac's albums actually got better album to album. You know this all opinon based. I mean some little kid toady can say young Jeezy is the greatest rapper and I would strongly disagree, but you can't say that kid is wrong, b/c its all opinion, just like when people talk about the best sports teams ever.

In the early to mid 90's you had so many good rappers, example: Rakim, Nas, Jay-z, Mobb Deep,Krs-One, Gang Starr, Wu-Tang, Scarface, Snoop, Dr Dre, Ice Cube, Nine and many others . Hip hop today sucks, I thought it was b/c I was getting older, but the lyrics and beats are so played out. There are a few good songs here and there, but as a whole Rap is going down the tubes. After B.I.G. and Pac died the whole Master P dirty south revolution started and thats where rap went into the whole I got bling bling and have 20's on my ride phase. Make ya say uh is one of the worst songs ever. How can a guy make millions of a song that sounds like he is taking a s*** is amazing.

R.I.P. Big **** all that haters without you and others hip hop wouldn't be here today.

                            R.I.P Biggie...

My opinion is, Biggie smallz was, and still is, one of the greatest lyricist to ever touch the mic. It's hard to say he's the greatest rapper off all time since his library is very small. Getting "all-time" status requires that your whole body of work extends for a long period of time. If he were still alive, he would have easily gained that status. As someone said in a previous post, he came out roughly the same time Nas did. Nas, including "Hip Hop is Dead", has 7 albums released.

I believe 7 albums would have been enough to judge his "all-time" status.

It really is hard to believe it's been a DECADE since Big was alive. Wow time really flies...

eric b was a phony or so thats the rumor . dj anyways , not a rapper and run dmc . just cause your one of the first to do something doesnt mean your great at it . run dmc was whatevers. pioneers yes but i dont think they are that great.

nwa was great but no one but ice cube was really that great of a rapper . biggie could tell a story , he was versatile had , great wordplay , sick flow ,good lyricist . not even a handful of rappers have the skills that he had . like i said , he had the most raw talent of any rapper.
