Maybe I should of used sympathy instead. Not that I don't feel bad for someone who does that, but I really can't show sympathy. I just think about their family and what they now have to go through because he wanted to do something like this.

If he wasn't depressed he wouldn't have done it. Depression is an illness. That's something that you can't control. Some people with depression think this is the only way, or the best way, because they're not thinking normally. Anyone can become depressed. Your mother, father, son, daughter or whomever. It's not something you can just man up about.

I hardly doubt that Jeni wanted to kill himself. Like has already been stated, if he was suffering from depression, then he was in a warped state of mind. I don't know if it was a case of his illness being to strong for his medication, his not being on proper medication, whatever the case may be, no one who is of sane mind is going to take their own life. Depression takes you from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows in no time at all. Not accusing him of anything, but if Jeni is like a lot of other comedians, he could have also been dabbling in recreational drug use, as well. Any type of medication -- be it legal or illegal -- that can throw off the balance created by depression medication can cause a person to become very volatile and can lead to serious actions, like suicide.

As someone who saw their own mother unsuccessfully attempt suicide while on various depression medications, before finally succeeding in taking her own life in the same way that Jeni did, the fact that anyone could say they feel no remorse or sympathy for someone who commits suicide, is very hurtful to me.

While Jeni wasn't one of my favorite comedians, he was definitely one that I enjoyed watching. My sincerest thoughts go out to his family and friends.

To people arguing with Dookie, I'm not really on one side or the other, but if you recall some time late 2005 when I posted about my friend jumping off of the Golden Gate Bridge, I did research about other people that have done that (and it happens about every two weeks on average I guess), and there was one story about somebody that survived the jump, and thereafter he was saying how he regretted his decision about the second after he jumped.

That said, I don't know if I would rather want to see somebody doing that and dying in doing so to either regret it or stick with their decision. It sounds sick in one way, but in another way it sounds very sad that they didn't somehow get a second chance, if that makes sense.


But I'll most certainly agree with Dookie in the sense that it's more or less an act of selfishness. If he does indeed have any children, they are dependent upon their father to live for their lives, and when he does something out of his own personal decisions to take himself out of the equation for his children, wife, etc., then I see it as a selfish act. Again, doesn't mean I don't feel bad for the guy. I still miss my friend John every time that I think about him, and him committing suicide does not make me think any different about him because of his cause of death.

And there is a documentary called The Bridge. They filmed the bridge for a while and caught all but one of the suicides on film. They also talk to a guy that survived the jump (and it may be the one you are talking about). I have yet to see it, but in the future I may.
