Serj Tankian - System of a Down. I guess I am too old, because I just don't see what people say in this band, but that is cool.

Phil Anselmo - Pantera, Down, Superjoint Ritual, Christ Inversion, Body in Blood, Viking Crown, etc., etc.
Good, versatile voice. Occasional rambler. Not technically proficient along the lines of a trained vocalist, but the the title read "Favorite" not best.D E S E R V E_V I C T O R YR.I.P. Sean Taylor (1983-2007), a True CaneComment

Re: Favorite Metal/Rock lead singers, and why
As for women rockers I would pick Ann Wilson from Heart who has a very strong and powerful voice and can still belt out the tunes with the best of them."If you don't have anything good to say, say it often"- Ed the sockComment

Re: Favorite Metal/Rock lead singers, and why
Rob Halford of Judas Priest deserves a mention. Not my personal favorite, but one of the better heavy metal voices.
Paul Rogers of Bad Company. The vocals stand out in a lot of their songs. I just heard Shooting Star on the radio this weekend.
Most of my favorite rock singers are more mellow, like Phil Collins and Steve WinwoodComment

Re: Favorite Metal/Rock lead singers, and why
Pat Benatar belts it as good as anyone, male or female as well.
No Roger Daltry?- Powerful voice.
Geddy Lee- Rush- Unique voice.
Roger Waters/David Gilmore- Pink Floyd- Distinctive voices
Jim Morrison- Doors. Emotional voice. Same with Eddie Vedder.
I need to add Brad Delp to the list. His voice resonates throughout the 1st two albums.Last edited by roadman; 03-12-2007, 10:16 AM.Comment

Re: Favorite Metal/Rock lead singers, and why
While most of the choices in this thread are great, another i'd like to throw out there you maybe haven't heard much of is Myles Kennedy of Alter Bridge. I know, I know, Alter Bridge is Creed minus Scott Stapp, and plus Myles, but Myles is 100x the singer Stapp is. He has unbelievable range in his voice. Just give a few of their songs a listen and you'll see what I mean.Comment

You can talk junk about Creed all you want, but of all the concerts I have been to and we are talking over 100 and maybe more lol. They were one of the bands that sound just like they did on their CD's and I have rarely seen that at the concerts I have been. And Scott does have a great voice it is his attitude that makes him bad! lolComment

Have you listened to Myles however? Stapp is a fairly good singer, but Myles destroys him in my opinion. For one, he has MUCH more range, as he can really tone it up on heavier songs, and on songs such as "Broken Wings" or "In Loving Memory", he can really hit the softer notes as well.Comment

Re: Favorite Metal/Rock lead singers, and why
James Hetfield - his range is amazing!
In all seriousness, my favorite vocalist is listed in the first post. Layne Staley. Alice in Chains is my favorite hard rock band. But there were a ton of great vocalists listed in this thread.Comment

Re: Favorite Metal/Rock lead singers, and why
I'm just going to put my favorite current singers and they are:
Ben Burnley - Breaking Benjamin. Just love the voice, great range, and sounds even better live. Also helps that he's one of the best writers today.
Pete Loeffler - Chevelle. I don't know what it is, just think his voice is awesome. Can go from whispering to screaming and it just sounds natural.Comment

I grew up with that band. My brother were friends with James and jam with them in the garage. It was really cool when they made it big!Comment
