    Google Maps Question

I feel like a ******* for even asking this, but I am having a major brain freeze. On Google Maps, how do you plot a location and then have other arrows pointing to near by addresses?

If that was confusing, here is what I am trying to do. For my Externship Seminar I am writing a paper on the Massachusetts Sex Offender Registration Board. I want to plot out where WNEC is, and then show where the Level 3 Sex Offenders are in Springfield in relation to WNEC. I am 99.5% sure I can do this visually using either Google Maps or Google Earth, could someone help me out here?

    Thanks in advance!

    Re: Google Maps Question

I know you can do that with the Google Maps API, but it requires writing a little bit of code. You can find it here: http://code.google.com/support/bin/topic.py?topic=10028

I made one for our Front Office Football league: http://osfl.oldredboat.com/html/OSFLMap.html

If you need any help with it, let me know.

      Re: Google Maps Question

Ideally what I would to do would have a map to scroll over in a presentation to show where these people are in relation to a college campus, as well as show the nature of the offenses committed. I am tempted to add names too, but that might be a bit much for the presentation.

Yah, that would be easy enough using the Google Maps API because you can add the balloons to show information about each place. In mine, they only pop up when you click them but I believe you can have them permanently displayed.

They also have a pretty good help written up for it.

Cool, would it be easy to understand for someone who has no programming skills?

On a side note to this topic, I just found 2 predators that are neighbors! One is at 40 Belmont St the other at 42 Belmont St! I feel sorry for the families in that area.

Not really, but I can help you with it. Just convert the addresses into Lat/Long and I can place a few and show you where to add the information about crimes, etc and how to add more. This site will get you the lat/long if you enter an address. http://www.maporama.com/

            I need the 42.10 numbers, not (42°6').

Also decide what lat/long you want as the center point and what zoom level you want.

Okay, I'll PM you once I get that done. I really appreciate it.

I must say, it is scary seeing the number of level 3 sex offenders within a 5 mile radius of my school, muchless say the public schools in the area.

Using the directions part of Google maps and only being through the C's on the list, this is so far what is within 10 miles of my school!
