Yeah Clay. Firestorm was one of my alltime favorite heroes. I copped the very first issue when it came out. He ( I think his name was Richard Ryder) got caught in a nuclear explosion with a Dr. and their minds were forged together to form Firestorm. Yeah, the cartoon version was too watered down. But if they would go back to the original comic format, I think that Firestorm on DVD (ala the avengers, the upcoming Dr. strange etc...) would be very good and I would certainly buy it. I think a lot of heroes should be done direct to DVD, imagine a rated r animated Conan(animation done by Ralph Bakshi), that would be off the hook!

It was actually Ronnie Raymond and Professor Martin Stein. I forget my wife's b-day time to time, but I don't forget Firestorm.
I know Raymond got mixed in with a Russian dude in some books in the late 80's then kind of faded into the background. He got killed off during Identity Crisis... and then they brought him back as just one guy (Jason Rusch) who was this inner city Black kid from Detroit... I tried to get into those books even though I was away from comics... but couldn't.Listen to The Remodeling Clay Podcast!

Re: Why is DC so slow to make super hero movies?
I don't know much about the DC universe (was a big Marvel fan growing up) but I thought Constantine was a pretty good movie. And I like what the WB is doing with their animated series; they've done great work with the first and more recent Batman animated series, Superman was pretty good, and the Teen Titans is really good for what it is.
But I agree DC's problem is the depth of it's characters. I'm still amazed at the work guys like Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, John Romita did in establishing the characters, and how writers like Peter David and Chris Claremont built the characters even further taking them to the next level. I was thinking for DC, Flash and Wonder Woman will be the next movie properties but I don't know either's archvillians. Anyone taking on a DC superhero movie would have to work up the coolness/fear factor for DC villians.
All this comic talk is making me want to go and dig mine outHBO's "The Wire" should rank as one of the top 10 shows EVER on tv - period

Re: Why is DC so slow to make super hero movies?
As far as DC movies, personally, outside of Batman maybe, there aren't any DC characters that interest me. I am in agreement with the people who say Marvel has better heroes AND villians. Compare a major event like Infinity Gauntlet or Civil War, to say Crisis on Infinite Earths. For pure star power which would you want to see? On the on side, you've got x-Men, Avengers, Fantastic 4, Dr. Doom, Thanos, Spiderman, Venom, Hulk and many many many recognizable heroes and villians. On the other side, you've got Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and the majority of the rest is limited to people 'in the know' who are just into comics.
So for me, until Superman loses his powers after he gets bitten by a radioactive spider, make mine Marvel.PS: You guys are great.

Re: Why is DC so slow to make super hero movies?
Hey aukevin I agree a GL movie would be great. I just don't know if the broad general audience would know who Hal Jordan is. Most of the people a GL movie would be aimed at would want to see John Stewart in the outfit. At least DC has revived Hal and I love Waid's characterization of him in the new Brave and the Bold comic. (I don't know how accurate or not that is to his mainline appearances)
As for the Flash, I personally have high hopes for a Flash movie simply because of the guy who wrote the script. (David Goyer) He was supposed to also direct but he dropped out for some reason or another. Last I heard and this was admittedly a long time ago is that with the Flash they'd try something like the TPB THE RETURN OF BARRY ALLEN and use that template to add depth to the Flash mythos. I think it could work but maybe i'm just a geek. I always liked the Flash costume as a kid.
trobinson97 you may be right to an extent but I don't think it took off for Marvel until the mid to late 90s. I recall that in the early 90s there really were rumors of the company going under. I believe that's one reason why it went public as they needed a quick infusion of cash.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Co-sign! That being said, Superman and Batman are two great heroes to fall back on. I don't know that they should make a movie with other characters or the whole JL, but they could work someone into one of the Superman or Batman movies.Comment

Re: Why is DC so slow to make super hero movies?
I want a Captain America movie. Batman and Superman are probably or 2 of the most popular super heroes ever. So Yes Marvel has some great heroes, but who is even close to superman or Batman, before the Spiderman movies he was not even that popular, at least not like he is now. Or at least not as more popular as Batman and Superman.Comment

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Re: Why is DC so slow to make super hero movies?
lol ok what ever say, but I am talking the general public not your comic geeks group. Superman was way more popular then Spiddy, look at the facts. How many shows did they have of Spiddy in the 50's or 60's. The movie did help a lot, if you can't see that then oh well.
Yes Spiddy was popular but before that movie it was Batman and Superman and then Spiddy, but the movie have made it closer now, more then it ever was before. That is what I mean.Comment
