Yes sir!(hand waaay up in the air) I saw them in the late 70's on the "Never say die" Tour. Right before Ozzie left. I can't explain how great it was to see the original lineup before before Ozzie left. Ozzie danced around so bad-but it was good! you know what I mean? Been a lifetime fan since.
O.k.-let's go with my favorite C.D.'s by them off the top of my head..
        1. Black Sabbath-(self titled)
        2. Master of Reality
        3. Vol 4
        4. Mob rules-with Dio
        5. Headless cross-with Tony Martin
Of course I pretty much am into all their stuff, except when Tony Martin got a little too "concept" with his long winded songs. Headless Cross though, stands the test of time as a great Heavy Metal album. If you listen to it without thinking "is this still Sabbath?" it's great. If your'e looking for the Oz sound-forget it. One more thought now that you got me wound up-Here's a good trivia question-now don't cheat by looking on the net for the answer-
Who was the first singer to replace Ozzie? I'll post the answer later unless someone gets it right first. My source is Rolling Stone Magazine's encylopedia of rock music too. Good luck,I seriously doubt you'll get it. I didn't.

I really enjoyed the Ozzy Sabbath as I was more subjected to that era from friends more than any other of the Sabbath catalogue. I've been looking into checking out more of the Dio era lately. They just recently released a Greatest Hits album just full of Dio Sabbath material.

Who was the first singer to replace Ozzie?

I really don't know the answer, I would have thought Dio, but I know that I'm wrong. LOL!

technically,yes-you are wrong. But,he was the FIRST to go in vinyl with them. The one that replaced Ozzie was...not yet ..a guy that had to scramble to get because Ozzie blew out quick and they had obligations. Most transcripts on Sabbath don't acknowledge this guy because he never recorded with them and was there a short time, for tour purposes.
I don't have that book anymore for reference. I'd really like to see if we have a Sabbath expert here,so I'll give the answer tonight.

Do you guys think that I should give the Dio Sabbath Greatest Hits a shot?

I like Dio in Rainbow and as a solo artist.............of course he sang a song on the latest Queensryche album OPM2 as he played Dr. X which was awesome.

I thought the story always went that Dio undermined the relationship between the band's manager & Ozzy and then stepped right in.

Ozzy Sabbath was infinetly better than anything Dio put out.

that could very well be possible. I'm sketchy on those facts but I've heard "stuff" throughout the years. Dio jumped in AFTER Ozzie returned and this guy left. Very interesting and trick question(kinda) trivia stuff, the kind you could win bets on too!
Anyway, here's a link that can explain who he was and other info about him(sorry I can't paste the link here-i'm kinda outta the loop when it comes to stuff like that) ....>>>> en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dave_Walker NOTE: go to the later half of his 70's career for Sab info.

Black Sabbath states they kicked him out due to lack of interest / drug and alcohol abuse. Ozzy said he left on his own.

Mob Rules is my favorite Sabbath album followed by Heaven and Hell.

Without seeing the song selections,It would be tough to say,but I'm sure it's good. Nonetheless, from what I remember-Dio did not do alot with Sabbath. Heaven and Hell/Mob Rules/LiveEvil..If there's another I'd have to check the net for it.
That's about all I remember on his hitch with Sabbath. Like I said earlier,I think you can't go wrong with Mob Rules. Ever since I mentioned that, the songs "Country girl" "Falling off the edge of the world" "voodoo" "over and over" are stuck in my head. Are any of those songs on that CD? Very infectious with good hooks. Another good singer Sabbath had for one album was Ian Gillian of Deep Purple. Born again-was the name of it and the title track could be one of the best metal songs I've ever heard. Gillian had a set of pipes that wouldn't back down for nothing! ADD ON: Dio come back for a great C.D. called "Dehumanizer" I got that one,it rocks!

                          Re: Black Sabbath

I was big into Heavy metal in the late 70's early 80's and Black Sabbath was my favotite band for a while. I missed seeing Ozzy with Sabbath, but I did see him on the first solo tour. And I saw Sabbath with Dio on the Black and Blue tour. (Called Black and Blue since Blue Oyster Cult was there too.)
I have all the albums through Mob Rules. I even have two versions of the first album, since one had a different song on it, Evil Woman.
If I had to pick a favorite album, I'd say Sabatoge.

Looks good 3 songs I don't recall ever hearing. Tracks 14/15/16 but that's good. Maybe those are unreleased or something, anyone here know? I'd buy it. All the other tracks are classic Dio/Sabbath. I really don't see how you could go wrong if you like Dio.
