I got the belt and "switch" when I was a kid-all the way up to age 12. I would have preferred being called a name or two. (NOT EXCUSING AB's TIRADE!!!)

Oh,man I was well acquainted with the belt and the "switch." Not excusing what Baldwin did,but these days you can't say or do anything to a kid without it being called so sort of abuse. That's why I think alot of the kids today don't have any respect. These days a kid does something and somebody tells their parents all they say is "Well,I'm gonna give Little Jimmy a good talking too." And they just let it slide. I remember one time I got smart with the next door neighbor and when she told my mom,I took a whipping right there in front of the neighbor.

I've gone off way more than that on either of my two children (ages 13 and 8). But I guess I'm a bad father for doing so, people now a days are turning into to wimps with all this political correctness BS.

You guys are confusing punishment for doing something bad with simply not answering the phone? And even if she had done something wrong there are ways to punish without calling her a bad little pig. I'm the most anti-PC person in the world but calling your daughter names and threatening her with implied physical harm for not answering the phone is just plain ridiculous and going too far.

I don’t know his situation with his wife and kid but it sounds like she is avoiding her father and he is a little bit mad. I'm sure there is more to this than just not answering the phone.
I’m sure some don’t agree with his parenting techniques and some might not agree with mine either but I think this is a little crazy.
I agree some of his words were not the best choice.
Just like Boltman said people need to friggen relax.

Consider this. Our neighbors had free reign to whup us if we deserved it. It was the perfect painful model of "it takes a village to raise a child."

The same goes for my brother and sisters (5 of us), we're all ok. You guys might see it as AB overreacting because the girl won't pick up the phone. The only thing that was bad about that voicemail (imoo) is that it was leaked to the public. I mean yes, it sounded funny to hear him yelling at her, but I no issues with anything he said to her. He didn't say anything that would lead me to believe the little girl would be emotionally scarred from it. Maybe it should have been directed more to Basinger but at the same time, the daughter needs to know to respect her dad as well as her mom.

I agree, but again, I think his comments were more a culmination of frustrating events that just sent him off. I still say the comments are more directed at Bassinger than his daughter. yes, it's her phone and he's talking to her, but I think it's obvious that the bitter relationship between Baldwin and Bassinger is the root of it all.

We had an old Italian neighbor named Lena..with jet black hair.lol She whacked my bottom one day because I crossed the street. I was astonished, but my parents took her side.

Look... here's the bottomline in this situation... in today's society... I LOVE the fact that Alec Baldwin cares enough about getting his time to talk to his daughter that it frustrates him to this point.

I use to coach 3rd - 6th graders, so basically 9-12 year olds... a big chunk of those kids would have killed to talk to their dad. Hell. a lot of them would have loved to just know who he was.

With the absense of father's in today's society in SOOOOOO many cases.... shame on the media for making this a story.

this got like 20 minutes of coverage on FOX news last night. I was flipping through and wanted to see how they would react. They were calling for criminal investigations, and tied it in to the VT shootings.
