    Motorola Q

Does anybody here have one of these? I just recently bought one off of ebay and I've had it for about 4 or 5 days and absolutely love it. This is my first "smart phone" and I am blown away by the coolness of it. You can go online and download free programs to use, downloaded google maps and you can look at just like you do on the computer, even the satellite pictures.

If I get ever get around to digging my Slingbox out of the closet, I could forward the videos from my dvr to my phone. Just a great great device. Highly recommend it if you can afford the data plans, which is the only thing that sucks. Verizon has recently released a Black version which I think looks much cooler, but it's also much more expensive. I also think Sprint has this phone as well.

What's your plan on it and the cost? If you don't mind my asking.

I agree about the cost. I wouldn't have a "smart phone" if my employer didn't pay for it. The extra features are really cool, but they just aren't worth it to me.

I also have Verizon and my bill is about $120 a month.....and that's with a business discount.

I got one and its like my very own personal secretary. This is the best smartphone/pda I've ever owned, and I've had just about all of them. A great buy at full price IMHO.

I've had the black one since late December 2006 from Verizon. The day after it was released I went ahead and bought it. I have the data plan package with our 20% company discount so it isn't that bad, but still expensive.

Check Q Users and EverythingQ forums to get the most out of it.

I have a 2 gig mini-sd card with misc stuff like SNES/NES roms, some cartoons (Tex Avery) (yeah I'm still a kid), and, of course music.

The screen is amazing especially when I can play Super Tecmo Bowl on the crapper with up to date 2006 NFL rosters.

Well they have the data + voice combo plans which I didn't do, but they also have 3 or 4 different data plans you can add to your existing plan (unlimited, pay as you go, etc). I chose the unlimited data plan and I think I pay $40-45 a month plus my voice plan, it varies anywhere from $30-50 a month depending on the voice plan that you are on. My company has a deal with Verizon and I am in the process of finding out what I have to do to get my discount.

I love Qusers.com. I've downloaded tons of home screens, they even have one that looks exactly like the 360 dashboard. I'm waiting to get a miniSD card from ebay for cheap, I've already thrown a few mp3's on there and the speakers sound amazing.

                  Re: Motorola Q

I have one, picked it up in January. I love it. I sprung for the 2gb miniSd but I easily could have gotten away with a gig, I have the NES emulator on it, nothing like playing Mike Tyson's punch out while attending a conference call at work.

I too get the work discount - only 17% though, I feel cheated due to your 20%. I have two phones on my account, 1500 anytime minutes, free verizon to verizon calling, nights/holidays/weekends, and the unlimited data package (which really isn't unlimited if you go over 5gb of transfers per month they'll drop you like Michael Jackson's baby and make you pay a termination fee). My bill is about 160 a month after the discounts.

I too have a slingbox and it works well with my Q, it works well with my comcast box, however that took a little work to get the menus to show. If you have an HD comcast box the menus won't show up on your Q, or slingplayer PC. You have to reprogram your box to work in 480i (which you can do by powering off the comcast box, hitting menu, highlighting the field and press enter until you get there, be advised though, you'll want to change it back before watching HD on your TV again. This isn't a problem for me as my slingbox is on my HD box in my theatre room, as the wife never uses it so I don't have to worry about anyone changing the channel or such while I'm using it.)

Another benefit of the Q is the fact that it works as a high speed modem. Anywhere I have a signal I have high speed internet. I recently took a ride to Memphis (i like in Knoxville, so its about 6 hours) and hooked my Q to my laptop and had high speed internet all but about 20 minutes of the trip. I used this time to watch the NFL draft from my slingbox. Slingbox Mobile really does a nice job of both timeshifting and placeshifting conventional television.

Other neat things I do include.
Streaming music from my online radio station www.joshreport.com (shameless plug, but hey, it's Q friendly).
It also has a handy little light built in which was a nice flashlight when the power went off last week.
Mobile AIM, MSN, GMAIL, YAHOO and the such - no more sending TXT's to people on your buddy list, it works in real time with real data - good bye 10 cent responses to your buddy's
                  MP3 player
                  Voice Recorder
Integrated hotmail support - real time hotmail updates
                  pop3 support for work emails
                  Calendar sync
it plays .avi's - Divx too
crappy little games, but as I mentioned I have about 50+ original nintendo games that I play on this bad boy.
and of course general web browsing.

Overall I can see why people would think it wasn't worth the cost, and for most I guess it isn't. But, I travel a bit for work, and I'm a sports junky. This gives me my fix regardless of the type of media. It's always nice to leave Church and get the latest info on your fantasy team by both espn and espn.com on the way home.

Overall, it was a great fit for me.

MSN is much better, exactly like your PC interface.

AIM is aim, its about the same.

                          Re: Motorola Q

God I hate my Verizon Q, and miss my Treo 650 every day. My main annoyance is with the laggy button presses, and the implementation of switching folders in messaging view. I also hate that, without the extended battery (which KILLS the form factor and look of the phone) the thing wont last a day of extended use. I love the EVDO I didn't have on my Treo, but I could've gotten that in a 700w or p.

If this is anyone's first smartphone, then you don't know what you're missing. Palm (in both windows mobile and palm iterations) and Nokia (with its symbian-based operating system), simply do it better. Im waiting to try out the iPhone, and if that isn't up to snuff (and I suspect it wont be, I don't think I could handled outmoded EDGE data and Cingular/AT&T), then I will be going back to a Treo (and possibly Sprint if Verizon doesn't get their act together quickly) with the 755p officially announced today.

Palm is the best small phone for minimalists, athletes, and families. Your entire digital life now fits in a coin pocket. Perfect for taking a break from your big phone.
I drive a 2005 Toyota Prius Gas/Electric Hybrid. My last tank was 53.6 miles/gallon. Gas prices fear me!

Isn't really related to the Q, but I have the 8125 for Cingular and absolutely love it. Should've dropped the extra $100 for the 8525, but oh well.
