How does that work, anyway? I've only ever been on Tiger so I haven't experienced a new version of OSX being released. Will my Tiger automatically upgrade to Leopard? I hope I don't have to purchase it.

Definitely NOT free. All the incremental updates (10.3 to 10.3.x or 10.4 to 10.4.x) are free through the Software Update app, but all 10.x releases cost money (never over $99 though). You can get a student discount that makes it usually $69 if I remember correctly.

The thing you need to remember about OS updates on a Mac: Apples treats their releases from 10.0 to 10.1 to 10.2 to 10.3 to 10.4 to 10.5 as monumental upgrades....much like Microsoft does from Windows 95 to 98 to Me to XP to Vista.

Anyone have a PS3 and is able to stream media to it from your Mac?

I think MacWorld is in early July and there should be an announcement about 10.5 then. It'll probably be out in October, and you need to buy the copy...not available for download.

I think there's gotta be something to stream to the ps3 from the Mac. Check www.macupdate.com for something and put something like "Mac stream to ps3" in the search window.

                      Re: Apple Mac Lovers

                      Couple of things:

                      1) MacWorld is every year sometime early to mid January in San Fransisco. There used to be another MacWorld in Boston in July, but Apple itself stopped participating in that one in 2002, and it was discontinued altogether in 2005. Macworls is often where apple makes major consumer product announcments(pro level apps and machines are announced at more pro-oriented trade shows and events at times, such as NAB)

                      2) Every operating 10.x system upgrade has thus far been priced at $129.00 MSRP, with the student editions going for $69. Of course, as with any software, you might be able to find this cheaper somewhere (but Apple makes it more difficult).

Most of 10.5's features are supposedly under wraps. A "feature-complete" version of Lepoard is supposed to be demoed at another annual Apple event, the Worldwide Developers Conference or WWDC for short. It is usually held sometime within the June-August timeframe, with this year's being held in San Fran June 11-15. Steve JObs will have his keynote the first day, so be on the lookout for announcements. 10.5 will be out in October.
I drive a 2005 Toyota Prius Gas/Electric Hybrid. My last tank was 53.6 miles/gallon. Gas prices fear me!

Sounds good. Especially since I can get it for around $70. One question though: My mom and I both have iBook G4s, with the same version of Tiger (10.4.9 I believe?), would we be able to purchase one copy of Leopard and install it on both of our iBooks, or would we have to purchase two copies?

Also, I'd assume when upgrading, my files will stay intact? I hope so.

Don't think Apple wants that but you could do it.

Yeah, I'll try it anyway. I wasn't sure if Apple writes some kind of protection onto the disk so it can't be installed more than once.

I've installed/upgraded previous OSes using one disc on multiple computers. However, they do have a family pack which allows up to 5 (I think) installs for the $$$ spent.
