Comedys should be shorter than 2 hours. they get boring if they are longer.

A general, sweeping statement, such as this one, really cannot be made about any genre of film. The actual length of a movie really doesn't matter to me other than making plans and fitting a movie into my schedule. Whether or not a movie feels too long is completely up to the execution of the movie by the cast, crew, storyline, and of course its entertainment value.

I tend to agree. Not always, but usually. I can't think of many great comedies that lasted 2+ hours.

90 minutes of laughs is about all i need in one sitting. I was bored with Knocked Up about 60 minutes in....

Exactly. I've seem 88 minute movies that "felt" like 3 hours, and 3 hour movies that felt like 88 minutes. A good film should engross you to the point where the running time is immaterial.

I keep forgetting about Freaks & Geeks. I really need to pick that up on DVD.

I just got back from seeing it. Great movie. Terrific comedy. It dragged a little towards the end as there seemed to be fewer and fewer jokes, but overall I would like to see it again.

I'm not sure if it can top Hot Fuzz though.

after seeing this movie tonight I have to say I really liked the movie, but not for the reasons I thought.

To me, this movie was a better "movie" then it was a comedy... while the jokes were pretty good, the movie itself and the characters in it made it for me. It seemed like real life, and the up and downs the people went through seemed pretty legit to me.

Rudd and Rogen were great btw... I give it 3 stars.

I definitely agree. The best way I can explain it is that Knocked Up did what Wedding Crashers was trying to do.

129 minutes is on the long end of the spectrum for a comedy. Still looking forward to seeing this one though.

                      Re: Knocked Up

Really enjoyed the movie. Like previous posters have said, great story, great characters and it was well executed. I don't understand the idea that the tail end of the movie wasn't as funny. The entire hospital scene at the end was hilarious, some of it had a more serious tone, but there were still a ton of great jokes. The only part I think let up on the laughter was after the Vegas trip up until the point where he found her in the bathtub, and that was maybe 10-20 minutes. I think they did a much better job finishing the movie than Wedding Crashers did.

A great mix of some really, really low-level humor with a more serious plot.

As for the time, it didn't feel long at all, things moved along at a perfect pace except for that previously mentioned 10-20 minute "low point" part. And the whole fantasy baseball thing was great, but they drew out the drama there a bit too long IMO.

Ha, she did like it. Good thing too, cuz I was ripping the whole time. This movie is absoluterly hilarious and some scenes were just gold.

I think the supporting cast shined big time, and the main characters had breakout roles. The humor was just awesome friend humor, which is the best kind.

Saw the movie last night. I enjoyed it, but it isn't an all-timer or anything. Some classic one-liners that had me laughing pretty hard, but it did seem to drag on at spots.
