    Re: Dell cutting 8000 jobs...

I just shake my head at all this...a sad day when the rich fat cats can applaud the loss of the folks who make their lives possible. I mean 10%! That's quite a few people, especially with sales remaining fairly steady since the "Dude you're getting a Dell" commercials.

I have my own personal boycotts (meaningless, I know) against companies likes this. Circuit City axes a bunch of experienced, knowledgeable folks and then offers to hire them back sans benefits with entry level wages to save a buck, and then sells the new release games for $10 cheaper than competitors to gain sales (good thing most stores price match). I'll never shop there again.

I don't even want to start on the U.S. auto and airline industries, using bankruptcy and other favorable laws to screw their employees (if you make millions in profits, you shouldn't even be ALLOWED bankruptcy).

I wish those families affected well! And good luck finding similar paying jobs, with wage growth flattening and lagging way behind generational trends. Good thing the CEO's portfolio is up!

Dell still makes solid computers IMO... depend which line you go with.

I always hated Dell and the way they did business. Outsourcing everything... dealing with their customer support line will cut 10 years off your life.

They are also streamlining their computers to Wal-Mart starting today. Dell made profits after the first quarter, which was a surprise to the analysts.

It will be interesting to keep track of how the new CEO fares down the road.

This is a good article to read on their upcoming strategy and why they had a 10% reduction.

I would rather stab myself than have to call DEll customer service. Every experience has been a disaster especially with billing issues and the communication gap is unacceptable for a company that big.
